Time to make a decision about this once and for all...

I bought my DS Lite a little less than a year ago. Since it has a dead pixel, it is my understanding that I am entitled to send it to Nintendo and get a refurb unit. (I also have my doubts (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=103048) about the headphone jack.)

Is there some reason I would not want to do this? Are the refurb units generally regarded as reliable? And does anyone know if it's possible to get a refurb unit that's a different color? (I've never been too crazy about the Coral Pink.)

Most LCD makers won't replace a unit because of a single bad pixel. You may want to call Nintendo customer service and find out what their policy is.

you could always sell it on ebay and fetch about 90+ then if you wanted, target is having a sale this week on the DS lite.. 119. vs. 129, regularly.. just a thought.

Yeah, I bought a new DS and it had a dead pixel and the store said to bad so I called Nintendo and they said that's normal with LCD screens. So your SOL like me.

Really? I'd heard Nintendo had declared they would fix such problems.

Perhaps I should have bumped leonk's informative old thread? http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=92269

So, no further thoughts on the matter? No one else has had experience with returning a defective DS Lite under warrnaty? I'm still curious about their policy regarding colors.

I bought a black DS Lite right when it came out. Unfortunately, it had a whopping six dead pixels, and GameStop laughed me out of the store when I wanted an exchange. I called Nintendo and they didn't hassle me about it; they just sent me a label to ship it in to them. A few weeks later, I get a new black one in the mail, problem solved. I was pleased. You might as well give it a shot.

depends on how many dead pixels. its very YMMV type of deal. the ebay thing is a good idea. also you can always tell nintendo that some pixels are off color at times "stuck", while one is completely dead.

I had a problem with a DS Lite where the system would automatically shutdown when certain games were being played. Went through Nintendo and received a refurb DS with a scratched up outer case and a few dead pixels.
