Time to get a new job, they're hiring!
... Well, maybe not. I hope they come out with some great games to come and don't get dragged too deep into later Halo releases.

Hm, intresting turn of events. My initial recation was "wow, this is huge" but after a few seconds the case of Rare came into my mind. Perhaps bungie will be a lot like Rare, only (In the long run) producing a handful of really good games. (then again, I don't know a whole lot about Bungie's lineup etc.)
Also, this continues to make me wonder if Microsoft sees Nintendo as somewhat of an unlikely ally. I realize it's a competitive market, but MS has said things in the past about the "Wii60" and such that make me think that to them Nintendo is simply a partner of sorts keeping Sony at bay. After all, the two systems are largely after two very different markets.
By this time, the companies are probably going through the early stages of the Helsinki Syndrome. As in Helsinki, Sweden.

Judging from that article it seems like this was a clean cut for everyone. They still have a strong partnership with Microsoft, while still being able to accomplish some independent projects on the side. Actually, I think the fans will benefit most from the split.
Hey, at least Halo isn't dead.:bigmac:

Sweet, time for them to go back to building unique IPs instead of spending nearly a decade on a single one. They might stumble (Oni) or they might make a piece of sheer brilliance (Myth). Either way, cool news.

That'd be totally possible if Microsoft wanted to publish it on the PS3. Of course, they'd have to pull a Sega and drop out of the hardware race before they'd ever consider it. Ditto for Gears of War (oh look, it's coming to PCs, supported under a Microsoft OS only). Not like it'd matter... you know the PS3 port would suck regardless :(
(update: still crying over PS3 port quality)
(update 2: Fuck Gamestop.)

I'll be the first one to predict an original Halo remake on the PS3. Or, make that a Halo 1 & 2 remake...updated and revamped. Then after some time of course, Halo 3. It is just a logical decision for them to broaden their horizons (ie: sales) by attracting another console's audience. It can be perceived as nothing but a good thing however, because now they are not restricted. Good for them.

Halo is the Intellectual Property of Microsoft... you'll never see Halo on anything else than Microsoft Consoles... unless they pull a Sega (highly unlikely... cause then, you'll see Halo only for Windows OS anyway...)
I think Bungie was politely shown the door... Microsoft is probably eyeing another developper, if not their own in house studio... there was probably a few personality problems arising during the development of Halo 3... like a good couple, they waited until the kid was out of the house to announce their separation...

Not likely. However, before Halo there was Marathon, a pre-cursor to Halo. maybe they'll resurrect that franchise, or even better, maybe they'll resurrect the Myth franchise. That was an awesome series of games, at least the first two.

Surprisingly, this doesn't phase me one bit.
No - I don't hate Bungie... I just never really thought of them as a strictly MS company. I think it's good they're expanding their horizions.
And We still have Halo Wars coming, so the fight isn't quite finished just yet! ;)

I love Ensemble Studios and all, but Halo Wars just doesn't look terribly interesting :(

Marathon has nothing to do with Halo aside from being made by Bungie. (OK well bungie stole a bunch of ideas from marathon for halo, but they have no real relation).

Halo Wars isn't being made by Bungie.
