Ok, I thought instead of digging up the other thread, I’d start this one on the audio only portions from the three systems and their versions of SFII (Turbo, Champion Edition, whatever). I found a way to get these recorded and I’ve linked to the movies I’ve made. They aren’t too large in size so I hope no one has any problems listening to them. In all three I used the same characters and the same stage. I tried to get as many sound effects as possible.

In my opinion, the best music is on the Genesis. But the voices suck there.
The best voices are on the SNES version... and the PCE version is a good middle point.
But that's just me.

I find it interesting how each present the voice differently. Especially the “Round one…FIGHT!” part. Some are slower than others, some lower pitch. The PCE version has really quiet samples from some reason while the Genesis is slower and lower in tone…
I can’t decide on the music but I think it’s a given that the NSES has the best voice samples.

I like the music and voices from the SNES version the best, I guess it's because I grew up on that game :)

You're not the only one...although my buddy did have the Genesis version. I remember he got it before picking up some 6-button controllers. We played ot for a 20 or so minutes and went to my SNES version. Man, that 3-button sucked for SFII...
Now the 6-button...still my favorite when compared to the SNES and PCE versions.

So did I. But I also played the arcade version of SFII for several years. I was amazed that the Genesis version had the best music, even if their voices were awful.

The Genesis version sounds more like the Arcade, but the Voices suffer

This was done a long time ago. You can find the videos on youtube.

Thanks for the clips, but it's not really a fair comparison because the sound quality of the recordings is so low. The SNES version is missing a lot of its bass in that recording. The Genesis version sounds like it has instruments missing...I don't know if that's the recording or if that's how it normally sounds.
I could definitely make high-quality stereo recordings of the SNES version and post them online. Is anyone interested? Can anyone post high quality recordings of the Genesis version? How about the PC Engine version?
