View Full Version : October NAVA: Lots of New Stuff! NOW WITH PICS
digitalpress
10-08-2007, 11:50 AM
It's that time again!
I know you missed the September NAVA. There were prior commitments
preventing a get-together so we're all charged up for a "twice as
better" October gathering. Are you up to the challenge?
The store has a few new things that weren't here at the last NAVA.
We've got a nifty MAME cabinet that's configured with 200+ great
games at the moment, and a Nintendo PlayChoice-10 loaded with our NES
favorites. Also, the store took in a vast collection late last week
which should be all cleaned, tested, and out on the floor in time for
the gathering. If you've been looking for minty, boxed game consoles,
this is the time to wheel and deal. Highlights include a boxed Jaguar
CD, Nintendo Top-Loader, and TurboExpress. Finally, we added a
high-def screen for gaming "on the island", where we'll have at least
an XBox 360 running to show it off. Pictures of some of this new
stuff can be found HERE (http://www.digitpress.com/images/store).
Two things you should be thinking as you're preparing for the 27th:
1. Bring things to trade or sell. Everyone is looking for stuff,
every NAVA brings great deals.
2. If you can, bring snacks and/or soda. I spring for the pizza but
that's a one-time event. There never seems to be enough snackage for
the before and after!
So get ready for a big gathering and feel free to email or call if
you have any questions prior to the event.
WHEN: Saturday, October 27th, noon to midnight
WHERE: Digital Press Videogames (see HERE (http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.adp?src=maps&1sb=revise&2l=cfIybzJcdMqEX8%2f7qGrv6A%3d%3d&2g=Rq014kYo%2bdRRrx8ZDXJxkg%3d%3d&2v=ADDRESS&2a=387%20Piaget%20Ave&2c=Clifton&2s=NJ&2z=07011&2y=US&2pn=Digital%20Press%20Videogames&2pl=973%2d772%2d1111&cat=&q=digital%20press%20videogames&qc=&2ffi=1) for directions).
WHAT: Lots of trading, lots of gaming, and lively chatter among
gaming aficionados.
See ya there.

I think we may do a "Gears" tournament this time, though it's also possible we'll go for Halo 3.

The Scramble machine is Mike's ("killersquirel"), it's back at his house. He's probably taking offers on it though so anyone interested should get in touch with Mike (or me if you don't know Mike). The Smash TV cab has been moved downstairs for now.

I had my first day of courses for this quarter today, and it looks like I shouldn't have too much work over the weekend. This means NAVA is looking more likely for me.
The last obstacle is gas money which will be fairly hefty at an estimated $75. Anyone want to buy a really nice JAMMA/Neogeo/&more supergun? (Made by D-Lite it has everything you would possibly need) How about some Metal Gear Solid promo stuff? I also have an Aerofighters Arcade board and a CPS2 board with marvel super heroes. I'll make you a good deal; less than what I paid, or would get on ebay.
EDIT - 99% Sure I am going now!

If you or anyone else has the following 3DO games
I recently had a large 3DO trade-in (I'm guessing that happens once a year). I think I've got Slayer, The Horde, and Mega Race in that deal. I'll put 'em aside for ya.
BTW I'll have two HDTV's running in the center island (bye bye for now, lovely C64 monitors) for the HALO 3 tourney at 6pm and a few specials for NAVA attendees (check your email tomorrow, though I'll post it here as well).

Well, my day just gets more and more complicated. I have a job interview hopefully that morning, stopping by NAVA probably from about 1 to 3, then I'm off to get my head shaved for a fundraiser at my school ( I have hair, people want to pay money to cut it, so we're throwing a party and giving money to breast cancer research. Why the hell not.), then at 4:30 I'm off to a band competition where hopefully we won't play like total crap.
In short, I hope I get to see some forum people this saturday, got my fingers crossed.

...and if I come, it'll be for the early shift, but I've got a question first:
Would any of you be interested in the following items:
1. Atari 2600 Swordquest: Waterworld-Great shape, cart only
2. ColecoVision Kevtris-#68 of 100. I know that John Hardie was interested last time I was there, John, you still in for this one?
3. A whole bunch of US Games and Apollo 2600 titles-none of the "good" ones, but Squeezebox, Name This Game, Infiltrate, Shark Attack, Spacechase, Commando Raid, Space Cavern, Word Zapper and Space Jockey are represented.
4. I saw that someone was asking about Metal Gear Solid stuff. I've got a boxed, never assembled Playstation 1 cutout for VR Missions in my attic, should still be in great shape.
5. An Odyssey 1, boxed, missing an RF switch and I think the AC adaptor (more on that later, when I check), but I've got everything else there in great shape, including the original batteries and amazingly, after 35 years, they haven't leaked! I actually called Eveready about that 10 years ago, and they were amazed back then.
6. Frogger arcade marquee-in great shape
7. Other stuff-people, send your wish lists. It's time for my annual pre-holiday "need to sell stuff" purge! Challenge me, I've got a lot of stuff, almost all pre-PS 2, but it runs the gauntlet of systems.
There's almost nothing I'm looking for in trade, alas (unless you've got Jaguar Defender 2000 or Atari 2600 Subterranea laying around, I'm good), but I'm accepting cash offers on anything I just mentioned, and if I get offers on the Waterworld or any of the other bigger pieces (Kevtris, O1, etc.), I'll be able to justify making Saturday a VERY busy day (I'm DJing at a party in Neptune in the evening, so it's going to be REALLY tough to fit NAVA in, much as I've wanted to for a while!). C'mon, folks, help give some games a good home, help get me out of abject poverty, and make it possible for me to come hang out with y'all for a few hours!

I'm going into the office on Saturday, so I'll swing by sometime in the late afternoon on my way home. I am still looking for an original gameboy advance. It doesn't even necessarily have to be in great shape. I just need the LCD from it to repair my one with the afterburner mod. I'm not likely to have time to pull any kind of trade box together.
Frankie_Says_Relax
10-26-2007, 01:01 AM
Since this is my first NAVA ... I'm going through my stuff trying to figure out what to bring for potential trades.
(My biggest problem is not knowing what I'd WANT in return trade ... but I guess that's part of the fun.)
So far I have:
A near-mint 7800 in original box (smaller retail box [slightly dinged up with a few minor tears] not the "prosystem" long-box) with original packaging and Pole Position II cart.)
I've also got a few extra SMS 1 units (potentially w/o RF switches)
a 4-switch 2600 black plastic front (potentially w/o AC adapter)
A Coleco Gemini Atari 2600 clone in decent condition with one "joystick / paddle combo controller"
a mint in box Samba De Amigo (official US) Maraccas w/Mat & Game Disc complete
a very good condition boxed Turbo Express
Mint in box Jaguar with many still sealed games
EDIT - also found a boxed Bandai Electronics Crazy Climber Tabletop (with battery cover / no corrosion in battery compartment)
EDIT - And while it's not strictly GAME related, it's of an era worth mentioning - I also have an un-modified Fisher Price PXL 2000 in full working order with original carry case, and B&W viewing monitor.
not sure what I'd let go for what - but those are things I'd bring if people are interested in them and willing to make reasonable trade offers.
Sorry I can't think of any "wants" off the top of my head. If I do I'll post an update.

I've got loads of these, you can have one for a song. Literally. Sing me a song and it's yours :)
Update for those of you not on the NAVA email list:
Hey folks,
I'm sure you're all geared up for tomorrow, I sure am. When we miss a month it always seems like so much longer! Anyway, a few things for you NAVA "insiders" that will help you navigate through the general Saturday customers.
1. The computers in the back are FREE for you to use. You log in with member name NAVAx (where X is 1 through 6) and password is "password". This is a one-day free pass.
2. As NAVA members you get a 10% discount at the register on everything except new game systems. Tomorrow, the secret phrase is "Save NAVA, Save the world". Say it to whoever is running the register and you're good to go.
3. As much as I'd like to put the arcade machines on free play, that means the local kids will hog the machines all day. If you want some free plays just ask me for quarters and I'll hook you up.
4. There is a HALO 3 tournament at 6pm tomorrow. It's 2v2 play so find yourself a partner and sign up. The tournament is FREE to NAVA members, it's 10 bucks for non-members. Rules will be posted at the counter tomorrow.
That should do it! Remember also that we can ALWAYS use snacks and soda, there is never enough for this ravenous crowd.
See ya's tomorrow.

That is how it goes... Unfortunately. Feel better for knowing you gave your cat a good home and life... Those who care, naturally mourn their loss. Be it human or otherwise... Don't feel bad. To give your attention and care unconditionally is to love. If you did that, and from your message I'm sure you did. Then be comfortable to say "I made a difference in anothers life".

As for kind words, it is only right. You made a great effort and it showed. You also showed great restraint... Sorry I missed it sounds like it was a good one. By the time I finished what I needed to at the office I was exhausted and feared stopping down for a few minutes would have turned into a few hours and I already don't see enough of my family so I bagged it. When things begin to quiet down a bit I'll be back.

NAVA went very well. It was very busy, but there didn't seem to be as much buying being done by the locals as I usually see. That doesn't mean there weren't many good deals to be had between us NAVA members though, I had a bunch and I know I saw some other good deals go down.
The tournament went well too, once we got it started. However, I definitely prefer the random retro style tournament. It moves faster, is more interesting on many levels, and is something everyone can play and watch.

Hell yes we did.
4 of those (I think) were mine, and at least TWO weren't accidental!
I'm still shocked that all my JAG merch was SO popular. I've always considered that system to be ... well, I don't really "hate on" ANY systems, but that's definitely one of my personal least favorites in terms of software (outside of Tempest 2000 and Alien Vs. Predator).
Hope everybody that got in on my merch found it to be in working condition.
And, I'm glad that people (Scrimble I think) asked me to test some stuff I had in storage for the past few years before I went and sold/traded it to anybody ... I'm looking into getting that Turbo Express speaker capicitor fixed at a reasonable price. In the meantime - (and for anybody else with a Turbo Express with non-functional internal speakers) I've found a quick fix for external sound is one of these types of speakers in the side headphone jack.

It fits without obstructing control use - and it's so light you don't even notice it.

Joe,
Thanx for a good time. I hadnt been to your store before and havent been able to make any NAVA meetings since they were at your house. Your store has it all and I was very impressed. I was able to bring my kids and they loved being able to kill each other playing Deathmatch. Hope to be at another event soon.

Your family was one of the highlights for me personally. All of you in the LAN gaming area playing head-to-head... I should have gotten a picture of that! That and the fact that one of your girls belted out the NAVA secret phrase - just classic.
Glad you had a good time and hope you can make it out there again!
