And for some reason, they're saying this new SKU costs $290.

Probably because they are packaging in a game, perhaps Super Mario Galaxy.

If that's true, I wonder if it'll still include Wii Sports, as well?

Could be a game, could be a second controller set. But definitely a bundle.

$290 = Wii + WiiSports + internal storage.

That's what my money is on.

All well and good but would people be able to actually buy it once it's released?

Additional internal storage? I hope Nintendo isn't that stupid. They'll be pissing off a lot of early adopters. They're the exact demographic that need more Wii hard drive space anyway. Who do they think is buying the bulk of VC games...."casual gamers"? I don't think so.

They just need a firmware update to allow the Wii to play VC games directly from the SD cards. That way, everybody's happy.

Yeah I don't think they should do memory but including an extra controller or game sure. Mario would be a good choice. They definetly need to make sure they have enough of these for christmas so I can sell em! Oh and that firmware update!

i remember some time ago nintendo was saying they will in the future release a wii capable of playing DVDs and then consumers will have a choice of which to choose.

i think that + internal storage is the update. perhaps a new color?

as it was already discussed before, playing large 3d games off an SD card would bring about lag.

Considering how wildly successful Nintendo is whenever they re-release a new hardware version of a system (Handhelds, at least - DS Lite, GBA SP, GBA SP2), I think they really are that "stupid"

If a revision or new design/bundle helps get more units into the stores so people can actually buy the damn things, I'm all for it.

Other than launch day, the only Wii consoles I've seen for sale are at a store near me called Entertainmart. They've got four used ones for $299.99 each. I doubt people even realize that they're even in stock, otherwise they'd be gone. You cannot find a Wii in the Dallas/Fort Worth area it seems.

That's quite a leap in logic. I'm talking about a potential increase in hard drive space, not a redesigned handheld.

I havent been able to get the original Wii. I've seen them at stores I think half a dozen times. But its NEVER when I have the cash to buy one. Whenever I f'n look for them I cant find them anywhere.

It'll be a bundle with both Wii Play and Big Brain Academy.

*shrug* SP2 only made one minor change, and I didn't hear any complaints from the "early adopters" of the SP1.

Frankly I've never bought the argument that people who buy something before a change have anything to complain about. Giving the next guy something more for his money doesn't at all change what I got for my money.
