can anybody tell me what i need to know about these or have a link that will explain everything? or if they know of someone trying to get rid of a 2 slot or 4 slot, this will be my first actual arcade game purchase.

Those are two good resources. There's really not a whole lot to know about the cabinet itself...it's mostly JAMMA compliant, and it plays MVS games. When buying one, make sure to inspect it for any obvious scratches or nicks on the cabinet. There are both the mini-marquees and the full-size ones for the more popular games. If it still has the locks on, be sure you get the key.

neogeo.com is a good source (and the neostore) for both learning things and locating a cab. Arcadeshock is great also

They are not too hard to get. It took me about a week to find one close, using just Craigslist and the Neo-Geo forums.
