Anybody got this running on a phat PSP with 3.71 M33-2 and the 1.50-2 Kernal update?
Everytime I launch it I get a black screen.
I'm pretty sure my kernal is set to 1.5. I've tried moving it around a bunch of directories without success.
I've been *dying* for a decent MAME emulator for the PSP forever (I need some portable Frogger and Bomb Jack) and the most recent effort sounds very promising so I thought I'd give it a try.
My other emulators still work (I've had them as long as I've had a 1.50 PSP), and my PS1 games work, so I can't figure out what's going on. Any help is appreciated.

You try putting it in the PSP\GAME150 folder?

Forget it.. guess I needed to try 3.71 first. I don't like it even w/ the updates.. I've downgraded back to 3.52 m33 release 4 :P

Yeah, I remember reading somewhere that 3.71 m33 won't run certain homebrew apps. I guess MAME is one of them.
BTW, how is 3.52 m33 release 4? I'm still using 3.40 OE but really haven't had any need to update yet.

I like it. You don't have to go into recovery to change the CPU speed, just hit Home from the XMB. That alone is worth the trouble of upgrading.

No problem. I guess I'll just wait for a 3.71 friendly release :)
Does 3.52 support the custom themes, or is that only 3.71? I *love* having a custom theme now (I couldn't be bothered with all of the hacks previously - too much risk for too little reward). I found a sweet iPhone theme, although I'd love to be able to change the background colour for it and I don't know how (you can change it, but the next time the system reboots it's back to the theme's bg colour. I'd have to find a way to edit a theme and I haven't done so yet).

Unsure.. as to me, a theme is like the most useless thing ever :p

I tottally understand where you're coming from, and yet I lalso ove the fact that I can do it. It would never be a deciding factor for me, but when you can do it I can't *not* try it out :)

I just read something that suggests this might not work for 8GB memory cards. So if anyone with a smaller memory card (and 3.71 M33) gets this working let me know and I'll just have to live with what I've got (or use the 32 MB card I got with the PSP when i bought it 2 years ago :) )

MAME works great for me in 3.52 m33 -4 but SMS Plus crashes every single time I try to switch roms. A few of the zx-81 emus crash on me a lot too, like the 2600 and 7800 ones.

so 3.52 m33 release 4 is the one to get. I have the 1.5kernal running, but no idea what the last version i had updated was, i think it's like 2.7 or something...
I searched google but didn't a nice homepage for mame4all, have a link to set things up? The links I did see had pretty poor compatibility, i just need a few oldies myself, hope they work. Thanks.

I'll tell you though.. unless something really drastic has happened in the Mame PSP world over the past couple of months, I'd just stick to the classic compilations and call it a day.
If you really want your Bombjack fix via a portable mame, I say get yourself a GP32 :)

I haven't tried this yet, but I've played the GP2X version of MAME, and I think this version is based on that one. GP2X MAME is amazing, and as long as they didn't screw it up when porting it, I highly recommend making the effort to get it working!

An update, just in case someone else has similar problems with this.
I had read somewhere that KXploit might solve my problem, so I ran that against the newest MAME4All release (4.91 I think) and got it working on my 8 GB memory card.
It's possible that the newer version would've worked without intervention (one of the updates mentions something about extra memory on a slim), but regardless I've got MAME running on my PSP now and am *loving* it.
