Does anyone here have any family members that also collect video games? Playing video games has always been a past time with my brother and I. Well actually almost the whole family, I supose. Because my mother used to play Nintendo, my grandfather owns and plays PS2, and my grandmother owns and plays SNES.
Anywho, my brother and I recently moved to Tennesse. And video games have always been a past time with us, and now that were older its almost the only time we spend time together. Over the years I've tried to convince him to collect games. Because he's always liked games as much as I do; but he's always played games more; and beaten games before I do. Now that we've both moved and he hasnt made any new friends, yet. He recently started collecting classic videogames. I gave him a handful of extra consoles I own; Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Turbo-Graphics 16, and a Nintendo 64, and a handful of titles that I had doubles for each of the consoles.
Last night he went to a pawn shop in Nashville and picked up half a dozen or so CIB Genesis games, and another half a dozen loose NES games. When he came home and showed me what he picked up, most of the titles werent any special except a complete copy of Aerobiz Supersonic for the Genesis which is one of the 30-ish Genesis games I need to have a complete U.S. collection. So I let him pick out a handful SNES and Turbo-Graphics games he wanted for a trade. So I think its great to have another collector in the family.

Hell no. I wish, man. I'd be happy with a friend who collects. Everybody I know just emulates. I do have a friend who would buy an old game if ti's something he used to play. He kept his Jag/CD, Genny/CD, and SNES so he's still down for some old school gaming sometimes. He doesn't buy old games he hasn't played so he's not really a retro gamer. Meh.

Yea I was thinking about my brother collecting. I think it's just awesome, someone to play with, someone to converse about classic plastic. Then there is always the possibility of trades. Like I did just yesterday, plus I can gave him a list of the 30 Genesis games I need for a complete U.S. collection once I made the list, I mean two people looking for the same 30 games is better than me looking for them for another year or two until I FINALLY have a complete Genesis collection.

Closest would be my girlfriend. She's HARDCORE into RPGs. The less english dialog and more perverse and fucked up the play style, the better. We went this weekend and she got her first DS. She picked up FF3, Dynasty Warriors, and Castlevania: POR. Those will last her maybe a week before she's killed them all.
She's open to collecting in a niche genre like the RPGs she likes.
My friend Ali is a gamer more than a collector. His philosophy is if he can get it on VC, no need to own yet another system to take up space. Dumbass...

Does it count if you pad their collection for them? If so, yes. Two, in that case.

No one in my family is even really into games, in fact, there is only one other person I know who is big into older games...too bad everytime I'm with the person he always tells someone else story about a system or game thats completely false and it annoys the hell out of me. How can you collect games and not have knowledge about them?

My cousin sort of does. He's come with me to CGE a few times, and he's picked up some good stuff (namely an NGPC and a handful of games), but as far as being a "hardcore collector" then no. He's more the game packrat who just kinda picks 'em up when he can.

Besides my nephew who only mostly play Madden, Im the only one that plays Videogames.

AFAIK I'm the only one in the Pantechniclan who collects. As far as gaming is concerned I'm not sure, but it's minimal if it's there at all. I'm geographically disconnected from my extended family so I have trouble verifying any of this. I have a couple of younger male cousins who might be into gaming a little bit, but I can't imagine them playing anything beyond the scope of modern sports titles, if at all. Neither my younger brother or sister play anything either.
But all of this is compensated for by my two beautiful children, who were virtually born with gamepads in their hands and DDR mats under their feet, and will in all likelihood one day inherit the treasure trove in my Room of Doom.

That kinda describes me. Lately, I haven't been playing games too much at all. But I still collect games that I'd like to play, even though I never get around to it.
My brother doesn't collect games at all, but he's the recipient of my Xbox collecting. He's got my console and my ever expanding collection, and at his place is where I tend to play any video games as of late. I guess I'm in more of a collecting mode rather than a playing mode for the last year or so.

Know what? You and I have the exact same luxury. My older brother "hunts" for video games at the same type of lawn sales, yard sales, pawn shops, thrift stores and Gamestop-type locations that I do. On occasion, he has better luck than I do and I am supposed to be "serious" about that type of thing, he is a little more casual. I agree it is pretty cool in that he hits all of these places that I miss or he is an extra set of eyes at places I frequent (i.e. Goodwill) in that he shows up there on days I can't make it.
My brother and I make a few deals with one another, both trades and straight sales. We also have an unwritten courtesy, if he finds an uncommon or high priced game that I want then he sells it to me for the price he paid and not a penny more. Naturally, I return the favor. So his bargains are often mine and my bargains are often his, all depending on what are on our respective "want" lists.
It is funny. He will phone me all hours of the day, even while both of us are working (different jobs) and blab about his most recent "finds" to my voicemail. My bro is about 3 years older than me, he's 30, and actually his two main loves are classic/muscle cars and vinyl records. But he loves games, too. So does his kid.

No, but my best friend loves classic video games. Always fun playing NES at his place.
Just myself and my little brother. We've collected games since we were about 6. But other than that no, everyone else in my family hates them :/

My brother and I were just talking about the same kind of agreement you and your brother have. I wrote out the 28 games I need to have a complete Genesis collection, along with a handful of other games on my want list; and he gave me a page of games that he wants to find. Now since he just started collecting his want list isnt anything rare, hell most of the games ont he list are dirt common to uncommon, but like I said he just started collecting so he still needs to pick up games like Sonic 3 and Mega Man 1 games like that, so most likely I could find his entire want list he gave me before he finds ONE of the 28 Sega Genesis games I need for my Genesis collection. But it is nice to have an extra set of eyes, and someone to game with, and trade with.

My younger brother and I have played and owned games since we were still in diapers. We both collect equally as each other. I try to tell him if he wants to learn some shit about the hobby to come be a member on DP but he never does. We usually will hit up the flea markets and game stores together. Its funny sometimes we'll try to psyche each other out like we found something rare, "oh my god I can't believe they have this" and pull out a Barney or Sesemea Street game to fuck with each other. There has been times where we've snatched some rare shit at the fleas right out from under each others noses and we have to be like "hey first come first serve" and we'll fuck around trying to steal the game we found from each other. Basically its what me and him do for fun. If you were to put both of our collections together, you would probably need multiple rooms to store it.
