I recently won this auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160161018024&sspagename=ADME:X:RTQ:US:11) on eBay for the very rare James "Buster" Douglas Knockout Boxing for the Sega Master System. Problem is, when I received the game, it was very clear that the cover was printed and not authentic. The game and the instructions are both mint, but the cover is a phony. I've emailed him and am now trying to work this whole thing out, so I have some questions.

1. What have you guys paid for a mint CIB version of this game?

2. What would this version, with a home made cover, go for if advertised?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

The way it reads he was very tricky with the wording and I can see someone (like yourself) being tricked into thinking this was a true cib game. I was thinking a mint one would go for around $100, obviously this is true as you were willing to spend $89.99 on what you thought was a cib game. I would say you might bring $50-60 on this one with the reprinted cover.

Some time ago, I had a couple hits on one without the manual (with original cover) at $65 shipped...I'd say you should have no trouble getting at least that $65 for it, possibly a few bucks more even.

By couple hits do you mean that $65 is what it went for? Or was that a set price?

Well, I need to get back to this guy today...any other suggestions of what this thing should be worth?

There was another on ebay a few weeks ago in which the seller actually stated that the cover was printed, but cart and manual were authentic. It sold BIN at $100.

It is a rare game nontheless, and I personally think that what you spent would have been fair had he stated the cover was a copy. But, he didn't, and you can definitely file a dispute for counterfeit items. I would ask for 50% of my money back (paypal dispute) personally, since you didn't get what you thought you were getting.

On an off note, I just purchased a "mint, complete" copy of this game as well and am currently waiting for it to arrive. I really hope my insert is real. Seems there are many of these copied insert Buster Douglas SMS games floating around now. Odd really, as I was always under the assumption that people generally kept their SMS boxes.

One would think that, huh? But look at all the loose Genesis games. :|

It's taken from SMS and printed from a regular inkjet printer. It's not glossy and fine like the original inserts are.

If im not mistaken I remeber seeing that same copy for sale on ebay for a looooong time. I think it was for sale for over $100 BIN.

It was listed correctly by the same seller at $100, but did not sell.

I offered him $60 for what he gave me, but he declined so I've since sent it back and am waiting for a full refund.
