I was wondering if anyone holds a video game catalog auction? This is done with another hobby of mine and I thought it would be very interesting.

A catalog auction usually consists of rare items. Everything is listed for sale at one time with a set ending date. You can browse the catalog at the website, by email, or a physical catalog that is mailed to you (often has a cost to it).

You then place bids by mail, email or phone.

Highest bid by the end date wins.

Thought it would be really interesting. Often people purchase the physical catalog just for the descriptions and pictures of the rare items.

I think there are enough video game rarities out there to pull this off. What does everyone else think? Would anyone else be interested?

I think book auctions often works this way. Sounds fun, but to be honest I donīt know if it would works for games. Not same "kind" of collectors, and ebay etc. are so dominating in our little part of the collecting world:-).

I know that a lot of the bigger coin auctions have catalogs that are collector's items on their own. For a lot of the extremely rare items, the catalog has some of the best pictures of the items. I also have a couple of auction catalogs containing sports memorabilia.

I've never heard of a consept like this. I supose it could work though. Since video game collection is such a small number of people. It may work if perhaps we did it just with DP members or something.

Sorry I was away from the computer for the weekend.

The other hobby of mine that got me thinking about this is old bottle colelcting. I know that there are coin and antique auctions like this as well. But bottles usually range from $50-1000. Not quite as high as coins or antiques.

I'm thinking about starting this up for video games. So any input would be greatly appreciated.

I'll keep editing this post while I iron out the details.

I think it would be fun.

Heritage Auctions has one of the best catalogs/bidding options available for comics, coins, entertainment stuff etc. Full color huge catalogs throughout the year check here

http://www.ha.com/auctions

Sotheby's and Christies do the same thing for just about everything from silver collectors to art to furniture you name it.

These type of catalogs usually cost $50-$100 each and are great reference books.

Mostly these auctions only have the high priced stuff for sale say around 500+ items minimum per auction.

I love the Heritage comic auctions myself.
