Welcome to the Digital Press Oklahoma Roll-call!!
Here you will find news on some smaller gatherings. Typically, the larger gatherings will have their own thread, but if you're living in or planning to visit Oklahoma and you would like to rattle around the idea of a get-together, feel free to give us a holler in here. Most of us have this thread in our "watch list."
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++
If you know any Okie forum members, point 'em this way. Maybe we can get something regular started. Post your location and typical availability. If you would like to help support this thread, and add a link to your signature, here is the code: (It will look just like my yellow one down there.)

Me:
The Village, OK
I'm usually available on the weekends.
Note: We don't have a lot of Okies around here & even fewer who visit this section of the forum. Keep your eye out for OK dwellers who join the forum and point them to this thread.

Maybe you could make a link to this thread in your signature? I know there's a lot of Okies (and others who border on Oklahoma) hanging around here. Flack, for one. Crossbow, for another. It's a shame that there's no Oklahoma Videogame Expo this year.

Nothing game related? Pshaw! Flack (OKC), 98PaceCar (TX), Gapporin (MO) and Grimbal (AR) just hooked up at my place for some gaming and thrifting last night (AR). I'm pretty much a stone's throw from the border so I guess I should count for this.
Also, Crossbow and Atari2600Lives are both in Tulsa.

We tried this once before, with limited success:
http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=84007
Smiling Jack started the thread, and there were only two people who responded; me, and some guy with 3 posts who disappeared after that thread. Guess we scared him off.
So far it looks like:
Crossbow (Tulsa)
DeputiyMoniker (Bethany)
Flack (Yukon)
Roushimsx (?)
Smiling Jack (Moore)
thegardentool (Shawnee)
I know there are more, that's just what comes to my head.
I know Deputy already knows about this forum, but the Oklahoma Coin-Operated Collectors Forum (http://forum.okcoin-op.com/index.php) is an Oklahoma-specific forum for arcade collectors.

I agree! It's one of the few cons I can attend and I was looking forward to it all year and then nothing ever happened.
Im located in Skiatook and usually available on the weekends. Although I just got a low-level management position at work so i'm sure i'll be working 6/12's before long. ::Sigh::
At least i'll be able to afford more games :P

I'm in Oklahoma City but my availability to hook up for nerding out is completely random depending on work requirements and family stuffs. Optimally, I'd be available between 1pm and 5pm on weekends for throwing money into arcade machines, because more often than not that's my gaming time. :)

My apologies... I just saw this thread posting. I don't visit DP near as much as I probably should.
Yes, I'm the one that hosts the OVGE or had for the past 4 years. And yes, it is sad there isn't to be one for this year. But with my recent divorce, and my being laid off back in May and still without a job...well...the money just isn't there to make a show.
However, I have toyed with the idea of hosting a small get together similar to what Icebrkr hosts at his place a few times a year. I don't have nearly the space he does, and I certainly don't have a small arcade. But I do have a BUNCH of TVs that I can hook up in various places in my little house and lots of consoles...hehe.
Just a small idea I was brewing in me head...

Well I'm not sure about even later in the month in January but can hope to find out more this week. They are scheduling some training for the 45th Fires Brigade to go through in January for their possible deployment to Iraq in late 2008. Whenever they can give me hard dates I can let you guys know. I'm thinking it should be the last two weeks of January.

I completely understand if you guys have to do it while I'm gone on work-related "work".
As soon as I took this yearlong fulltime National Guard job I knew my social life was going to be shot. I work Tuesday-Friday 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and "overtime" as needed. I'm on salary so overtime doesn't help me at all. :-\
On a side note, does anybody have a cheap arcade in the Oklahoma City metro area for sale? I've been eyeing a 2-slot Neo Geo but my wife thinks $325 delievered is too much.
I'd love even a cheap Neo-Geo conversion at this point but would take anything that is cheap enough for the wife to approve. The cheaper the better but I'd like a cartridge-based system so I can change the games out pretty easily. A sub $200 Neo Geo would be ideal.
On a second side note, for a future get-together, I live in a about 1250 square foot townhouse in Shawnee, which isn't exactly halfway between Tulsa and OKC but close, and wouldn't mind having a get together here with enough notice to get everything cleaned and organized. My wife and I moved in Aug and still have boxed up stuff around the place. I have the downstairs with a 32" SDTV and an upstairs with a 30" HDTV and could probably set up another TV in each room if people brought them. I have no objections as long as I had plenty of time to get things settled and cleared with the "CEO/CFO aka Wife". And as long as everything pitched together cash for pizza or something and up to 15 people or so.
Sorryu for the rant, been drinking as the wife is at work on New Years Eve and I've had basically a two-week vacation from work so I've been deeeerunk the whole time.

I went through a stage like that. I didn't need two weeks off though, just an hour or so. :P

I'm still up for something like this yes. But the 12th is also out for me. I have my boys that weekend and while they would have a good time, there really isn't that much room for them and their stuff they bring.
Also, my house is very small...I mean...really really small. Like just over 700sf total space in my place. I can hook up more TVs in other places and get some consoles out. But if more than like 6 or so people are in here...it would get crowded...no doubt.
So for me...the weekend of the 19th is the only available time this month.
DeputyMoniker

I can't do anything on the 19th. That's just a couple days after I start school again. If more people will be available that day then I'll have to skip this one. LMK if anybody else would rather do it on the 19th.

As far as I know, Cactus Jack's is the biggest and best in OKC. I haven't been there in a couple years and the last time I went, the retro selection left something to be desired. However, they do have air hockey, Galaga, and Neo Geo. So they have most of what I go to play. The only problem is that the Galaga cab is one of those 20th anniversary combo ones, so the screen & control stick throw me off.
Flack would probably know more about it than I do though. As a matter of fact, he has a section on his website dedicated to the subject:

Cactus Jack's is located just north of NW 10th street on Council road, which is an exit off of I-40. The address is 1211 N. Council road.
If you're going solely for classic games, you'll probably be disappointed. The last time I was there, there were only four or five classics left. Still, it's a fun place to check out, with lots of restaurants close by.

I left at right around 3. I think I was the only other person that played Galaga (that I know of). I think you may have also been playing on a pin when I sat down at the Tales from the Crypt one. I had the bald head and was wearing a sweater.
I was happy to see both Galaga and Robotron there, as well as a decent selection of pins. The place was also quite a bit larger than I had expected. Makes me wish we still had an arcade in Stillwater. :)

I don't recall the name of it but yeah, I played one round on a pinball machine. I wish they had Apollo 13 pin, man. I never see those anymore. Unless someone else is on it, I usually go straight to the Galaga cab when I go to an arcade.

I live in the Tulsa area and I usually have Friday, Saturday and Sunday free. Although I do have to work Friday overtime on occasion.
But I think it would be really cool to meet some fellow DP'ers. It would be cool to meet up at an arcade and just play some games and get aquainted.
I think the only real Arcade left in the Tulsa area however, is Funhouse. But there is also Incredible Pizza... Not the best food, but LOTS of cool games. If anyone was interested we could meet up there and eat and play some games. Anyone interested?

I just found this thread after looking for any info for the OVGE.. I'm thinking of going to the Texas Pinball event in Grapevine, TX in Mid-March...
I've never been to OVGE, hopefully it can someday return...
Anyhoo, I'm in South OKC, and maybe even could help in getting space to host a classic gaming/tourney event in the future... 'Coz right now at my workplace there is already the "Limey Dragon" which is a traditional games shop (pen & paper RPG, dice games, warhammer 40k and hordes tourneys, etc) and it is located off of S.E. 29th street (near Del City).. We might be able to clean/clear out the space next door for something, but, depending on the size, space, # of people, and area requirements (electrical, furnishings, which area to use, parking, etc), there may be / are some public access 'limitations' (if anyone is seriously thinking organization, etc, :? PM me and I will let you know what all there is to focus on)..
It isn't fancy schmancy (unless it was all decked out, maybe :pimp:).. But the main thing is if it was for 1-2 days, I'm offering the space for free or almost free..
But in anycase, I'm just throwing it out there possibly for future reference.. I'm usually pretty busy, but if something is planned I would like to make it at the least, and help out (volunteer) up to host it at the most. \\^_^/

Thank you for the offer, Rifter. Welcome to DP.
Unfortunately, we seem to have attracted only men who live in an iron lung and have not the ability to go outside and play. :wink 2:
Seriously though, that would be great. All we would need is for everyone to pitch in and bring a couple things. A power strip or two, a vacuum cleaner, some Clorox wipes, and the cleanup will be taken care of. A few TV's, systems, games, pizza money, and we're ready to go.
Do you have any spare tables or chairs to use?
Maybe we can pitch in and hire Daft Punk to perform. That would be sweet. Anybody have a spare 20k laying around?
Rifter01
02-16-2008, 02:30 PM
HEHE ... Daft Punk would be awesome!
Right now as far as tables/chairs go.. 1 oval conference table with like 12 chairs.. The limey dragon next door has alot of extra folding chairs and a couple of tables..
Yeah, many of my friends are very busy and have family that likes to suck the fun out of their weekends :vamp: LOL
Maybe when it gets a little warmer we can get SOMETHING going.. In the mean time I'll be gathering and hording a few games to show and tell until then.. hehe
P.S. It would be cool to see a Sega CD or NES R.O.B. Robot .. I haven't seen any of those in awhile.. I'd especially like to check out Time Gal (Sega CD) again. I rented that game (& the Sega CD hardware to play it on) back when Sound Warehouse was still around.. (Sound warehouse/Soundtrack I forgot which LOL)

Sound Warehouse was awesome. (I think Soundtrack was a car audio store.) I have a lot of good memories of that place. I was a youngster and while my dad looked at music & movies, I'd read Garfield, Calvin and Hobbes, and play with the toys they sold. Good times. That place was on 39th & MacArthur, right?
EDIT: Oh, and I have ROB. I tested him a couple years ago & he worked...but not very well. I think his gears are loose. He needs a rebuild...and I mean the special treatment:
