It sounds like the E3-sized, open-to-all videogame convention that Arnie Katz has begged for his entire life: http://www.ugexpo.com Anyone here going, or are your hearts and wallets already betrothed to CGExpo?

I would like to go,but it is in CA and after getting my parents to take me to CGE I think that would be asking for too much. :(

No pics yet, because this year's UGExpo is the first. It's going to fill up the South Hall of the L.A. Convention Center, which is gi-normous, and it's going to run 10 am to 10 pm (!!) for the first and second days of the three-day event.

That's slightly awkward timing, no?
The weekend after CGE, I believe.

Depends on how much of a Tax Return I get. Going to E3 and CGE are going to kill me, but if I'm driving to CGE, it would be easy to just drive to LA afterwards and stay there a couple of days...

No buzz on this show at all even in the games industry. The web site is a slick presentation of NOTHING. Who is going to be there? A massive floorplan with nothing labled.......who will be in those booths?
I would not be making any plans to visit this steaming pile of nothing!
AND.......
Downtown LA and the convention center SUCKS!

Woo-ha! A convention close enough to me that I can actually go!
Even if it *does* turn out to be nothing, it's worth a shot.

A quote from the latest press release, which also doesn't mention any exhibitors by name:
"Attendees of UGE will have a chance to buy games, equipment and gear at the event. In turn, exhibitors will be able to conduct market research and consumer testing on their most desirable target demographic -- young, passionate game enthusiasts as well as families with multigenerational players. Projected attendance is 100,000+ participants of both genders ranging from 12-34 years old. Admission to the festival is $20 for adults and $10 for anyone under the age of 17."
It is my humble opinion that 100,000 is a stunningly optimistic estimate. As you said, there's zero buzz, and companies who just spent millions of dollars at E3 will have already busted their expo budgets for the year.

Again, right on, except that all of L.A. sucks. I'll never understand how city slickers get through the day without shooting themselves or each other... oh, wait, they don't. Doh!
