Tim Schafer is making a game for Xbox 360. The guy that designed/co-designed Day Of The Tentacle, Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, Secret Of Monkey Island, are you paying attention yet?

So on a whim I watched this trailer at the xbox360achievements website.

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/26524.html

As a fan of everything that is campy about 80's metal, and considering Timmy's track record, this trailer has me very interested. Throwing some Sabbath in there certainly didn't hurt either.

Don't forget Psychonauts.

And that trailer looked bitchin'.

YAY TIM

I'd have thought there might have been some bad blood betwixt him and Microsoft, after Microsoft declined to publish Psychonauts. But then, they did manage to get it included in the XBox360 backwards compatibility, so perhaps not.

I love tim schaefer games, I had no idea this was by him until I saw the thread.

Edit: Whoa, that was a lot bloodier than I thought it'd be. And the main character looks a lot like axel steel (From guitar hero 2)

Eh, the character design does not differ greatly from Full Throttle.

Judging from that trailer, it looks like it's a game that has the potential to repeat all of the horrible, horrible mistakes that smothered the beautiful game that is at the core of Psychonauts.

And I also predict this game will be delayed until, say, third quarter 2009.

(Say, remember that interview Tim gave on the saga of Psychonauts (http://v2.razputin.net/index.html@page=razputin%252Ffeatures%252Ftimwords .html)? Foreshadowing, thar.)

In a game about Heavy Metal that sounds like a compliment!

I think the Sabbath was meant as more of a call back to the animated Heavy Metal movie than it was to Sabbath itself. "Mob Rules," played during a major battle sequence in the film, much akin to what was in the promo.

The game itself looked like a cross between funny and fun, which can work, but I don't know that it works $60 worth. Guess time will tell.

More info...

The main character is voiced by Jack Black, and his name is Eddie Riggs.

The villain of the game is.....

The villain of the game is voiced by LEMMY KILMISTER. And his name is....is....

His name is KILL MASTER. HE IS A MOTORCYCLE DRIVING BASS GUITARIST.

Also announced as v/a's, we have Rob Halford and Ronnie James Dio.

As an attack, Eddie Riggs will be able to perform guitar solos that literally melt his opponent's faces off. These solos may be performed by K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton, who have been confirmed as being on the soundtrack. Along with new songs by Zakk Wylde, Tim Skold, Wolfmother, Judas Priest, and Ronnie James Dio.

I haven't even seen gameplay footage and I want to buy this.

How exactly did they secure a budget for that kind of thing, I wonder? Those names alone will sell more than a few copies.

"Blah i hated psychonauts" = Sounds bad.

"I didn't care for psychonauts" = Sounds better.

YES, let us judge the game on the basis of a pre-rendered nonplayable cutscene rather than its actual gameplay! THIS HAS NEVER FAILED.

But there is an umblot in the title! It has to be good. :p

It's certainly interesting. Psychonauts was good fun even though the gameplay wasn't superb or anything special.

I want more. This game is the most metalist thing since, "Heavy Metal" from 82'. Soundtrack makes me want to crack skulls and bite the heads off of bats. I love how every area in the game looks like a Metal album cover every inch of the way.

I couldn't stop just looking at things. The metal atmosphere was fantastic. Even the menu was brilliant. I did not see a health bar at all. Does it have a rebounding health system or something?

Anyone notice the nod to Psychonauts from the guitar player in the intro?

I couldn't stop just looking at things.

That's how Tim Schafer games work.

I've put honest consideration into getting a PS3/360 just for Brutal Legend.

Richard Horvitz doing the voice? Yeah, nice touch.

Not sure how health will work in the full game, but it's impossible to die in the demo, so that's why no health bar.

All I'm gonna say is this- this game better live up to the hype they keep fucking giving it. Or else.

This demo gave my eyes boners. Seriously, I'm in love. And Jack Black doesn't exactly sound like himself so it's even better.

Tim Schafer, I will buy whatever you make. Ain't many game-designin' folk make me say that.

I was afraid the gameplay wouldn't come through, but the demo's great. Like a Beyond Good & Evil that's actually interesting.

It is pretty cool, though not exactly "Heavy Metal (The Movie)" calibur cool.

The gameplay seems very simplistic and a bit dated, the visuals at times are stunning yet other times it looks like an original Xbox game.

Color me fairly unimpressed considering the amount of time this game has been in limbo, it has obviously hurt it a bit. I'm all for anything Heavy Metal, but imo this game barely scratches the surface, more like Hard Rock.

Bargain bin material for me. I really like the start menu with the LP though, my favorite thing unfortunately.

I had almost zero interest in this game until I played the demo. It seems like it could be really good.

played the demo. atmosphere and presentation were top-notch. writing was great too.

it was let down by the basics though. unclear objectives and a dumb camera that constantly needed babysitting were the biggies.

i'll be waiting for the inevitable price drop on this one.
