Capcom Announces Street Fighter 4 and More!

Mark this year as one of the most momentous years for gaming. It's announcements like this one that keep making this job so worthy and awesome. After much anticipation and hype, Capcom finally delivers with their promises of bombshells.

Street Fighter 4 was officially confirmed at their press event in London just a few hours ago. A concept trailer was shown depicting the series' two most recognizable fighters exchanging some moves.

The current release date scheduled is more than a year away, which hopefully means we'll see it in time for the 2008 holiday season.

Street Fighter 4
Development has just begun and the release of the game is more than a year away. No platforms are yet confirmed - a highly stylised animated concept trailer of Ryu and Ken fighting was shown, but no game footage.

Street Fighter 4 Confirmed

What could be better than Capcom bringing back Bionic Commando? How about Street Fighter 4? Games Radar is reporting from the Capcom Gamer's Day in London that the 4th game in the series has been oficially confirmed. A stylized trailer of Ken and Ryu fighting was shown, but no actual gameplay footage, and while development has started the game is still more than a year away for whatever platform it ends up coming out on, Still, we can all rest easy that it is indeed on the way. Along with this amazing news, Capcom also announced Lost Planet for the PS3, a new Ace Attorney game for the DS featuring and new main character, and an all-new sci-fi action adventure game called Dark Void. It takes a special kind of company to wait 20 years from the release of the original game to finally get to number 4 in the series. I can't wait for the year 2012, when we'll be playing Super Street FIghter 4 Hyper Mega Hologram Remix. Yum.

Wow, I can't wait. The big question though is will it be 2D or 3D?

one of many, many unknowns, at this point.

just the fact that it's almost certainly been announced for real
(and I am looking for a 100% official press release to know it's concrete confirmed)
is just something in itself :)

It's a cold day in hell when SF4 is announced....and Satan giving out free cherry snowcones...

I am really impressed that Capcom finally started making sense, I just wonder what kind of graphic engine it will run on. Maybe borrow something from Sammy?

it better damn well be 2D. Its cool to have 3D offshoots of the streetfighter series, but to come out with a direct sequel and not have it stay true to the roots, you may as well be playing Streetfighter EX or whatever it was called. I thought the animation was great in SF3. We got over a year to wait so I'm sure they are going to make it a good game.

Fuck.

Ryu and Ken look like something out of Final Fight Streetwise. And what's with the Dragon Ball Z fighting? ;_;

its the zombie apocalypse. i did not expect this news until like another 5 years. after they finish milking SF alpha 3 and possibly milking sf3

Judging by the trailer, parries are staying in after Ryu gives ken that smirk after the roundhouse.

I bet this is staying 2D and it will look incredible.

If they kept that whole concept in involving the ink, like harnessing it for powerups, that would be interesting. I know it's just there for effect in the trailer, but it could be a cool effect during matches.

I was pretty impressed, but the only thing I found to be lacluster was Ryu's appearance. Too different from what we're used to.

Capcom can't do 3D fighters all that well IMO. 2D for sure.

I heard it's going to be a 2-D adventure like Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub Zero.

I am presuming the little cartoon they showed has nothing to do with the actual game . . . a lot like the watching the PS2 Killzone promo back in the day.

When I see some footage of real game play, then I think there will actually be something to talk about.

uh well, there's plenty to talk about since just yesterday it was highly doubtful there would even be a SF4. this the biggest bombshell in years.

Yeah this HUGE news!

I just hope its 2D, like a SF:3 Third Strike sequel. Regardless, this made my day.

I hope they don't recycle the sprites from SFIII and just tweak a few things. I wonder if the new ST sprites Udon is making for them will come into play here?

Hmm, I wonder what hardware it will be on. Capcom doesn't even have their own arcade boards anymore.

Maybe, they'll go the HD route, and put it on Lindbergh. Or maybe they'll be more concerned about availability and cost (which hindered SF3 back in the day) and put it on Naomi.

Either way, this better be worth the wait. It better be 2D, it better have newly-drawn sprites, and they better tweak the gameplay enough that it's not SF3 Fourth Strike.

I was thinking about this as well. I don't know much about how all this works, but I imagine if it were on Naomi, which has been around awhile, SF4 would make everyone and their dog hack and crack Naomi all to hell. I'm assuming SF4 will be on new hardware debuting with the game. (developed by someone else) Who knows, they may even be contracting out work for CPS4?

Even if it does get an arcade release in the US, my local mall arcade sure as hell won't get it. They're just now getting third strike!:grrr:

Very true. I don't mean to diminish the actual announcement, as you're right, it is pretty sweet.

I guess I am a bit annoyed that the way they chose to get people excited about it is to show the intro to some anime movie that doesn't exist. It's just a Japanese marketing ploy of which I've had more than an ass full of. :)

I'm calling it right now

Lindbergh (assuming it even comes out in the arcade), Okami-style cel shading.

If no arcade rev, then PS3 first, XBox360 later.

I'm not holding my breath, but you never know, it might be good... for those of you unaware, Capcom USA is developing it.

Do you have a source for that, other than some vague news story from years ago about Capcom USA taking over licensing duties?

OMFG! Sweeet ass!

The concept trailer was pretty bad ass. Funy how a forty second video can set the net ablaze.

I heard Sheng Long was in it. That true?

Here's some info from snk-capcom.com

"Yes, the trailer is a CGI 3-D intro, but there's no need to panic, at least from our source which tells us the game will be in 2-D with spruced up graphics that will put SFIII3S to shame. If Capcom decides to follow through on their arcade release, expect to see it on Taito's Type X2, which is also supported by SNK Playmore. SF IV will be presented with HD graphics in a 16:9 frame ratio. Further details and footage will likely be shown at the AOU Show in Japan in February 2008."

I love the video they made for it. Awesome artwork. I can't wait for this game. Hopefully it will come out on the Wii...not likely I'm sure, but it is the only next gen system that I own right now :/

This game is so far off, who knows what it really is going to look or play like. As long as it's more on the lines of "new" animation like SFIII was, we'll be fine, and not CVS2 where we had old animation and gltichy "roll cancels."

I guess I'm the only one here who really doesn't care about a new Street Fighter.

The franchise died about a decade ago, along with the whole fighting game genre.

Heh, my friend declared he wanted to see a trailer, in which the first bit is someone getting infinitied, with crouch cancels.

Let's just throw in roll cancels and custom combos and go all out :P

Well, that's the word around the campfire. There's been talk recently that they're farming it out to a Japanese developer, and hopefully that's true... as long as it isn't ARC System Works.

Either way, as long as CapCom USA has a significant amount of input on the game, I am not looking forward to it.

Even if CapCom Japan was behind it, I'd be worried. Most of the guys behind SF2/3 are gone.

And their last effort (CFJ) didn't exactly inspire confidence...
