UnSolicited Penis on Xbox Live:
You have to read this article, no wonder we don't find too many female gamers on Xbox Live! Meet Abbie, our newest writer and our relaunch of the 'Token Female' column:

Good read, but it also goes the other way too. (not that I mind) When Uno first came out on XBLA it was almost a nightly thing to see different girls doing some... well let's just say inserting things. Also, I have several girls on my friend list that will kick your ass in Rainbow Six, Halo, Gears Of War, and Ghost Recon. I think it's funny as hell for guys to give them shit before a match and then be constantly killed and teabagged by the girls they were giving shit to.

It always amazes me the extent that some people will go to. Why on earth would you send pics of your junk to some person through a mutual gaming experience? I just don't understand what is the matter with some of these guys. Really they give a bad name to gamers in general. Unsolicited penis is quite possibly the new catch phrase of the years lol. Quite an interesting column I must say and I will enjoy future additions.

UnSolicited Penis is one of the following:
A. A naked punk rock group.
B. Bill Clinton's Secret Service code name.
C. Fighter17's alt user name.

I thought you guys would get a kick out of that one! When Abbie was pitching me the story, she had me on the floor in tears with some of the stuff she's gone through. I think the best is when she doesn't say anything, hands some cocky bastard their ass then lets them know they were beaten by a girl...
(oh, and I think I'm going to have to start playing Uno now - is it really like free porn?)
This week Abbie will be covering the 'E for All' show for us. I can imagine her diatribe on being a minority in attendance at THAT show...

After working with Abbie for almost a year at Tips & Tricks I was, like, mega-delighted when she agreed to join Jay, Rob and me at J2Games.com. She's the best female journalist in the business for my money and doesn't even have to call herself "Natasha Nude" or something equally ridiculous to attract attention—not to mention lotsa photos of genital warts! Though what I find interesting is that she once remarked to me that it was other female gamers who often gave her the most crap online. Hmmmm.
Quick reminder: The J2 site is getting a makeover around the front end of next month at which time I'll be awarding the first Game Doctor Q&A Prize Packet for Best Q of the Month in about 15 years. That means the winner will be getting stuff mostly from the 90s with perhaps a bit of 80s memorabilia just to start it up in style. I have several good Qs in already, but there's still plenty of time for a topper to squeeze in there and snag the swag.
I'll also be running a major piece on "30 Years of Space Invaders" including an interview with the game's creator, Tomohiro Nishikado (as translated by Anatole "The Real Deal" Brown) so I hope you'll be checking in regularly. And now that we have our Very Own Thread here on DP, I'll be trodding these boards with even greater regularity.
Okay, so you take the bitter with the sweet.

Btw, among the items being included in that Game Doc Prize Packet will be one of the original screen overlays that had to be placed over your TV screen to play various games on the 1971 Magnavox Odyssey (that should get Earl off his Phosphor Dot Fossil so he can send me a winning Q). I have no idea how rare these sheets are, but I don't think you'll find them on eBay.

Game piracy has been a plague on the game industry almost from Day One. Even going back to the days of the Atari VCS there were game stores with ROM burners in the back capable of transforming a single game into six-eight games. The Crash of '84 and era of computer dominance (we no longer played infantile “games” but were encouraged to involve ourselves in the wonder of “simulation”), escalated piracy into overdrive. Disk-based media proved a lot easier to duplicate than cartridges and the "user groups" that evolved around the new, cheaper computers such as the Atari 400/800 quickly evolved into the virtual Caribbean with stolen games being swapped wholesale.
When George Lucas got into the software business with Ballblazer/Ballblaster and Rescue on Fractalus, he was appalled that the same infrastructure that could keep the wraps on a multi-million dollar movie could be undone in the game world by a single, low-level employee showing off a game to a “friend”. And that’s what happened to Lucas’ debut titles; Rescue on Fractalus (under its original working title, Behind Jaggi Lines) and Ballblazer were being played by thousands upon thousands of pirate gamers months before the intended release date with the piracy level rapidly becoming exponential. Your value to the group was based on the goodies you could bring to the table—especially if you were willing to share.

I hope this becomes a future videogames - Terminator on SegaCD was one of the better movie to game licenses.
Variety reports that Warner Bros. has acquired North American distribution rights to 'Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins', triggering an early 2008 production start for a film that seeks to reinvent the cyborg saga with a storyline to be told over a three-movie span.
From Variety:
The Warner deal dashes MGM's hopes of corralling distribution rights to the film. The Lion planned to pepper its slate with tentpoles such as "The Hobbit" and "Terminator," but neither project has worked out for the distributor. Halcyon sued MGM in July in Los Angeles Superior Court, claming the distrib was interfering with its distribution plans on the fourth "Terminator" film on the basis of an MGM claim that it had acquired an exclusive 30-day negotiating window. The "Terminator" pic franchise got a new lease on life in spring, when privately funded Halcyon and its co-CEOs Victor Kubicek and Derek Anderson teamed with "Terminator 3" exec producer Moritz Borman to acquire film, merchandising and licensing rights from ex-Carolco partners Andy Vajna and Mario Kassar. Kubicek, Anderson and Borman are producing the new film, with Peter D. Graves as exec producer.
WB had first right of negotiation for domestic theatrical and TV distribution rights because the studio played the same role on 2003's Jonathan Mostow-directed "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines." That pic posted a domestic gross of $150 million and a worldwide total of $427 million.
The producers said that the new film will carry the size and scale of "Terminator 3," and will have an event-sized budget. It will likely be less than the $200 million pricetag of "Terminator 3," which was saddled with extravagant costs that included above the line payouts, rights payments and heavy fees incurred through a complex financial structure. Warner Bros. is also producing a smallscreen "Terminator" adaptation, "The Sarah Connor Chronicles," for Fox's midseason sked.
WB's commitment solidified the pic's financing structure and ensured a start date, producers said. They will now zero in on overseas distribution. Sony Pictures Entertainment, which distributed "T3" in most overseas territories, is expected to get first crack at a reprise. Several other territories are spoken for, including Japan, where Toho-Towa is expected to distribute once again.
A screenplay has been completed by "Terminator 3" scribes John Brancato and Michael Ferris, and the financiers and studio are close to locking a director. While industry buzz has "Charlie's Angels" director McG as the odds-on favorite for the assignment, the producers said no final decision had yet been made.
The first two "Terminator" films, directed by James Cameron, used contemporary settings to pit Sarah and John Connor against indestructible cyborgs. "T3" was also set in the present day and ended just as the machines initiated a nuclear apocalypse. "Terminator Salvation" was deliberately not given a number after its title, because Halcyon is eager to make it clear that the fourth film heads into an entirely different setting.
"This is set in the future, in a full-scale war between Skynet and humankind," Anderson told Daily Variety.
Borman said: "The third film was really the conclusion of what happened in the 'now.' You will find the most-loved characters, but the intention here is to present a fresh new world and have this be the first of a trilogy." The producers said it wasn't yet clear whether Arnold Schwarzenegger will be back for his fourth appearance in the franchise that launched his movie career. "T3" was the last film in which he starred before becoming governor of California. "We've left it open for him to maybe do a cameo," Borman said. "He has an important job, as we know, and the final decision will be based on his desire and availability, along with what the director wants."

The first of a two-party feature I wrote commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the development of Tomohiro Nishikado's video game classic, Space Invaders (Taito), including quotes from a recent interview I conducted with Nishikado-san with the help of interpretor Anatole Brown has now been posted at: http://j2games.com/new/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=4ef8ff57af3157819830ebf4d311be d3&topic=1028.0 -- Part 2 will be up on Tuesday.
I'd love any feedback on this piece. Nishikado has not been interviewed in an American game magazine in years, to my knowledge, and the most recent interview I could find was in Edge about five years ago.
The article is loaded with interesting bit of information -- such as the only part of the game Nishikado DIDN'T design, his favorite SI ripoff and the Atari game that directly inspired SI.

I’ve often shied away from expansive ‘off the rails’ games that allow you to “explore entire new worlds in every last minute detail available.” I just get too bored with looking under rocks to see if there is a magic shard or piece of paper with a magical clue on it in hopes of going off to do it all over again! When Final Fantasy XIII came out for Xbox360, I did promptly sign up, login and enter this huge world where I didn’t have a clue what I was supposed to do! Same happened with Grand Theft Auto. This all harkens back to Cybermorph for the Jaguar where I flew and flew and flew and accomplished nothing. I know I need to explore these worlds and drive and fly around and accomplish shit so other shit can happen. I just don’t know what to do, when to do it, what needs to happen next, what order this all comes in and why I’m bothering. (and I’m not about to starting taking notes in case I put the game down for a week.) In the end, it doesn’t feel like a game to me, it feels like a job...

You almost always get a strong reaction from tits and ass, unsheathed or otherwise. Bioware’s exclusive Xbox 360 title Mass Effect was released November ’07 but has only recently been knocked by some harsh, unfair and thoroughly uninformed criticism. It all started spiraling downward when Kevin McCullough, some type of conservative pundit, made ridiculous claims about a sex scene in the game that was clearly inaccurate, going as far to declare, ““Mass Effect” can be customized to sodomize whatever, whoever, however, the game player wishes.” If that were the case I’d have been first in line last November...

The story I heard was that the first time a Japanese artist showed an American censor a picture of a nude woman (given Japanese tastes, she was probably in some form of bondage), the censor was aghast at the full frontal, pointing at the vagina and assuring the artist that they could NOT show THAT at all. The artist, however, assumed the blowhard guygene was referring to the woman's pubic hair and so the Japanese stopped drawing pubic hair on their nudes, resulting in an art style that became so androgynous that a character in the "Robotech" anime once went into hiding by pretending to be a girl without changing a single thing about the way he looked or spoke. Weird...
