hi so i scoured the forums for upwards of 6 hours yesterday and didnt see any information about this nor did my googling skills fulfill my question. so i recently bought a sega cd model 2 hooked it up with my genny model 2 and 32x, it plays genesis games, 32x games and sega cd games just fine :). however its not so hot with the backups and with the price of some of these games i just dont feel too comfortable playing the originals, now i tried pretty much everything i could find to improve this i cleaned the lens the systems various interconnects and cables, burned them on the slowest settings to increase the reflectivity and it still doesnt seem to work very well with some backups. they tend to play fine for about half an hour and then get stuck trying to load data after this happens it wont play any backups for several hours but still plays pressed games just fine. now my question is this, on several other optical game based consoles ive seen this issue resolved by ever so slightly increasing the laser voltage, is there any known way to do this on a sega cd model 2? failing this would replacing the laser help and if so where can i find a new laser as i wasnt able to find any via googling either. thank you for any help you can give me with this issue.

One thing you could try is to use better CD-R media. My playstation's laser was really sensitive to backups. I ended up tracking down some Taiyo Yuden CD-R's which are generally regarded to be among the best. I burned them at 4x and the poor quality Playstation laser was able to read them much better.

First post and you're asking about priated goods. :shameful: Anyway, most of the backups you find online have been compressed and then reinflated for burning. This changes the length of the audio clips just a little. Some games will not load or work properly if this is the case, Lunar The Silver Star is a good example. Moral of the story, only play backups that you have burned yourself from the source media. Not only is it legal, it'll actually work.

while i am using the backups i found online i do own the legitimate discs for them hehe. its just that im not sure how to rip and recompile them myself and its so much more convenient to just download them than try to actually make my own backups from my originals. if you can point me in the direction of a guide on how to make my own backups id be very grateful.

All I do is use DiscJuggler, copy disc from same burner, and burn at the lowest speed my burner allows. It's as easy as that. I have copied a few of my games that I dont want to use the originals of:

dark wizard
lunar 2
shining force cd
popful mail
vay

The only one I can never get to work is lunar.

oh wow i figured it would be slightly more complicated like copying a dreamcast game. awesome hopefully between these suggestions i can get this thing working reliably without having to put my copy of shining force cd in harms way.

You can use ANY CD burning software to duplicate Sega CD games, just to a 1-to-1 copy at a slow speed. They aren't copy protected in any way.
