Well I did start that thread about the 40gb and being dissapointed about the loss of backwards compatibility. But thinking about it I do already have a u.s. PS2 and a japanese PS2 so is it really that big of a loss? Is the PS2 upscaling really worth getting a 20gb or 60gb model? I can't decide.

I'll be going to Japan for a few weeks during Christmas and was thinking about getting that snazzy new white one since it will only cost about $350 thanks to the exchange rate of the extremely undervalued Yen. I'd plan on picking up a white dualshock and GT prologue also.

Has anyone ever traveled back with a boxed console? How do you do it? Carry-on? Stuff it in a suitcase? Carry on console in backpack and mail the box?

I'd probably FedEx the whole thing back, or if not, try and do carry on with it - not sure how much hassle you're going to have go through with customs, though.

could be a nightmare I know people who go to Japan and get out with alot of stuff usually a bag or two full of goodies but not consoles or anything. Might be worth a shot though if you really want the color

Argh, to make this choice even more difficult it looks like Gamestop has lowered the price of the new 20gbs they have left to $379.

you can shove as many video games into your suitcases as you want. they dont care. as long as there are no lighters or such theyll just let it through. (been there done that)

A console packed in its original packing in your suitcase is likely safer than a fedex package. After all, your console in your suitcase is padded by clothes, etc, while the fedex package isn't.

No problem bringing consoles back into the country, just list it on your customs form. Customs won't even give the slightest shit about what you're bringing in if the total is under $1000. I hauled alot of stuff to the US many times (games, consoles, etc etc), always declared on my customs form, never had a problem.
