I am considering buying a 360 and a new LCD television for my game room. I am looking at 32" LCD's. The problem is that they seem to be 720p. This is one I am looking at:

So will this tv do 1080i or would I have to run the 360 at 720p? Would I be better off getting a larger tv that does 1080i as it's native resolution??
I'm a bit lost here. Thanks for any input !!

It will do 1080i, but it will look crappy because of "downscaling" (process used to resize image). Also, it will be choppier because 1080i has a slower refresh rate than 720p. So it's best to go with your monitor's native resolution of 720p.
Side note: 1080i will look somewhat better on a 1920x1080-pixel screen than 720p, because 1. 1080i is a higher resolution and 2. 720p video has to be "upscaled" (imagine a bitmap about 1/3 your screen's resolution expanded to fill your whole screen). But, 1080i might make certain games slow down and it is interlaced (http://www.100fps.com/).

I have a Toshiba HD tube TV for my 360 and 1080i is clearly superior to 720p.

I have a new HDTV LCD Samsung for my 360 and 1080i is clearly superior to 720p.
in my old HDTV LCD Samsung is clearly superior 720p.to 1080i
My tv (Sharp Aquos) does all resolutions but I run my 360s and PS3s at the 720 res anyways because it does seem to look much better. It's definitely not shitty enough that I'd be wanting higher, that's for sure.

That's because with the HD "tube" televisions , the optimum resolution is 540p. So 1080i works almost perfect with it. :)

The problem here is that 720p really isn't this TV's native resolution... the TV is 1366 x 768, so a 720p signal will be upscaled to that. My TV does this too, and I run my 360 in 1080i rather than 720p. Honestly, I don't really see any difference... it seems to be a matter of personal preference, so try them both and go with whatever you prefer.
I don't understand why they make TV's with goofy resolutions like 1366x768 or 1440x900... Why wouldn't they just make them 1280x720 or 1920x1080 so scaling would be unnecessary? It doesn't make any sense to me.

i have a PS3 hooked up to a Samsung TXS3082WH 30" Wide Slimfit HDTV. which is a CRT TV. so does that mean i should probibly be running it in 1080i as opposed to the 720p? and can anyone tell me if this TV model will automaticly convert 720p to 1080i as i've heard some do this.

You should always set your Xbox 360's resolution to match the native resolution or to whichever resolution is closest. If you have an LCD HDTV with a 1366 x 768 native resolution, you might want to grab a set of VGA cables (so long as your TV has a VGA input connector). If your 360 has HDMI output and your TV can accept HDMI or DVI, going the digital route would be ideal. If you just want to stick with the standard component cables, setting the 360 to 720p will give you the best results in that configuration.
You should be able to find your television's native resolution in the manual.
