NJ Classic XXVII
It's SHOWTIME again!
http://www.digitpress.com/images/njclassic/tn_njxxvi_028_jpg.jpg
Officially, this is the "going away party" for DP forum moderator and Game.com section editor Adrienne "Achika" Barr, who many of you met at our last gathering. She'll be heading back to her hometown and I'll do whatever I can to offset her feelings about her stay in NYC.
The day: Saturday, May 3rd, 2003.
The time: 3pm until whenever you pass out.
On tap: the usual selection of video games, though I can see the rhytm-based games getting a little extra play so Guitar Freaks will be out, the maracas for Samba de Amigo, and the BeatMania controllers. If anyone is up for Dance Dance Revolution I'm "game"!
http://digitalpress.5u.com/nj14/tn_nj14%20008_jpg.jpg
Freebies: I've got a box of Genesis sports titles, all boxed, many with instruction manuals. If you need any of these, you'll be walking out of here with them. I purchased a lot of these recently at a price I couldn't pass up but there were tons of duplicates. Take them off of my hands.
I've also got new Digital Press T-shirts! No pressure =)

Let me know that you'll be there. Don't miss this one. Forum people, if you plan to attend, please PM or e-mail me in advance. Thank ya!

I want to go and I would have attempted to drag some NECG people with me, but I am, if I finish my school work (working full-time and going to school sucks), to the NYC Vespa/Lambretta rally...

Good GOD, Kaine.
Pompton LAKES. Passaic County. If you go to either Pompton Plains or Morris County you'll be calling me from a highway somewhere saying "where the fuck am I?" and I can't have that.
I'd like to see a few first-timers! The initiation is mostly painless >)

What's the buses? Hmm. Does "NJ Transit" answer that question? The location you want is Pompton Lakes, corner of Ringwood Ave and Wanaque Ave, which is walking distance to my house.
@Rolenta: sounds great! Haven't seen you here in awhile, and Patrick is certainly welcome. Tell him to bring his ex-girlfriend that looks like Kate Moss, please. Thank you. :)

The morning after.
GREAT FUN. I think this was overall my favorite game night ever - whereas the last event was very much about the trading, this one was a nice balance between trading and gaming. Also eating and drinking and certainly being merry.
No pictures, sorry - I considered it but quite frankly I needed a break from behind the camera, and everyone just looked like they were having too good a time to ask for a backup photographer. So this will be known as our "secret event" for future generations.
Highlights.
-Greg "geelw" Wilcox' import PlayStation collection, complete with a narrated show and tell by Greg.
-Adrienne "Achika" Barr's tattooed foot (first time seeing it for me, sweet).
-The trade with Jeff "Kid Ice" Belmonte, which doubled my N64 collection in the process.
-Playing Guitar Freaks with Mike Etler.
-I gave away another Dreamcast. The guests had all night to put the high score up on Crazy Taxi, arcade mode, 3 minutes. Jeff won that pretty handily at just about $3000. Congrats again!
-John Hardie's "tastes like ass" bacon cheese dip.
-Our first bona-fide Atari Ager attendee, who also made it through the whole night (Shawn "SS").
Left behind/discovered in aftermath.
-A PSX Pepsiman disc, no case.
-Greg's secret notebook. Bwahahah! His secrets are mine!
-One white (?) sock.
Thank you's.
To all who attended, you make this very easy to host. I really look forward to these gatherings more each time. So, to my set-up partner John "CX2K" Hardie; our regulars Don "TVs Hasselhoff" Evanoff, Scott "superstonic" Stilphen, Jeff "Kid Ice" Belmonte, Dave "Portnoyd" Warmington, Al Backiel, Brian Grego, Steve "NoahsMyBro" Jacobs, Leonard "Rolenta" Herman; first-timers Mike Etler, Patrick Wong, and Shawn "SS" Smith; NYC contingent Greg "geelw" Wilcox, Jessen "Tetsu" Jurado and Adrienne "Achika" Barr, and my pals Leanne and Brian Bradley, thank you!
Sleep time.

Just so you know, Joe, I am also the current Gigawing high score holder, with somewhere in the neighborhood of 892 bazillion points.
For those who didn't show, you missed a brutal Mystery Science Theater session on the cutscenes at the beginning of Metroid Fusion.

Joe, thanks for having us!
Thanks to last night, I can now claim a near-complete collection of Electronic Gaming Monthlys (I'm only missing #15) and I practically doubled my Genesis collection.
Too bad nobody wanted to see my episode of G4's Icons about Atari -_-

So how much extra recycling you got this week then? :P
As much as I proclaim this group to be big drinkers, it really isn't so. I drink much less at these functions than I would "being out" on a Saturday, and since everyone else has to drive, the alcohol consumption comes to a grinding halt as soon as the sun goes down.
Now the soda cans... that's another story!
One of the stipulations with Mrs. DP is that all recyclables are removed from the house's interior by the time she wakes up the morning after. Mission accomplished =)

As usual, had a good time. The drive up was pleasant, the drive home was pleasant, but the entire drive home I had this nagging feeling like I missed watching something on tv about Leonard Herman.
Weird.
Joe's once again got me wanting to spend more money, and the amazing little GP32 will HAVE to be my next purchase. VCS emulator...check. SMS emulator...check. C64 emulator...check. NES emulator...check. DIVX player...stop teasing me, i'll buy one already.
Yeah, playing against Achika in Amplitude was fun. And like every new voyage of discovery that takes place when I hit DP HQ, I discovered I have a foot fetish. Thanks, Achika.
Later on, while staring at Achika's feet, I tried my luck at Crazy Taxi. No dice.
Then there was the good hour or more we played with the Gamecube GameBoy player, thanks again to Achika. While staring at Achika's feet, I was amazed at how easy it was to hook up, and the game quality was superb!!!. Can't wait til it arrives stateside.
But while staring at Achika's feet, I remembered why it is so nice to make the trip to Joe's. Its just great to sit around with fellow gamers and play, reminisce, develop an unhealthy foot fetish, absorb gaming to its fullest.
Next time, we have to drag out the Xbox, at least for a few minutes. You guys avoid that machine like the plague.

It was also much more relaxing then being a host for all these years. ;)

Well, the only pics of last night, I believe, are in our minds (bwahahahahahaha). But you can always try to imagine something twisted, involving flashing lights and loud electronic noises, throw in some junk food, and you will be getting close.
As always, I had a pretty good time too. I had a blast with Guitar Freaks, Vib Ribbon, Rez, and of course Crazy Taxi. I tried Crazy Taxi many, many times, but could just barely break 2000 points. There was simply no way I was going to beat 3000.
I got to play Bosconian on the revered MAME-machine, learned about the ORIGINAL name of Bump'N'Jump, and found that the Intellivison advanced Basketball game my younger brother's been asking me about for several years was NOT just a small halluciantion he was having.
Picked up a handful of old Genesis titles (thx Joe), and in general had a great time.
To me there's something deeply relaxing about zoning out with junk food, a deep couch, and video games.
Oh, and speaking of junk food, I must have had enough WW Points to last a month. HEY!! I guess I broke 3000 points after all!

Nope, there was no "ass dip" consumption, so without tasting, I'm not sure if I can give it the "ass dip" seal of approval, otherwise known as the Nintendo Seal of Quality.
Maybe it was the pizza reacting with the root beer.

Despite John's warning, I sampled the Ass Dip(TM) and went on a wild ride filled with crazy adventures and flashing lights. What a trip. Also, I got to drool over Joe's recent uber-rare aquisitions, a boxed Mega Jet and a portable PC Engine/CD-ROM2/TV Tuner portable combo, which I've never seen in real life before. As usual, Greg had a wide assortment of games I have only heard rumors spoken in whispers of. Got to play his Rakugaki Showtime, which is a bit like a cross between Yu Yu Hakusho and Smash Brothers. Seeing Kirby, Metroid Fusion and Castlevania on the big screen via Adrienne's GBA loader thingy was awesome. Dave and I duked it out in some friendlly, but heated, Street Fighter battles as usual. Dave also showed me this kick ass shooter called Juno First, whcih I'm currently hooked on. I think I had one too many SODAS, though, because by the end of the night I was feeling jittery. But once again, good times were had. Thanks for having us again Joe! You throw a great get together, as usual.
PS: How could I forget?! BOW DOWN BEFORE THE POWER OF:
Shaq Fu!!
I got a complete boxed copy for Genesis. Thanks again Joe! Maybe I'll keep it, maybe I'll put it on eBay if I ever need the cash. Sure to be a collector's item!

That goat sound was my intestine's violent reaction to said ass dip.
Why is everyone knocking the ass dip? Even Joe acknowledges the greatness of ass dip. I'll probably have more ass dip in the future.
And yes, those crafty Barq's cans pop every fucking where you go.
Juno First = God's shooter that features sound effects made on a comb and tissue paper. #1 comment of the night. :D
