Anybody else played this? I tried it out at Jillians 3 years ago. It was crazy expensive though, so I only played one game.

indeed. I own the Dreamcast version. It's a fun game... but that's where I'll leave it.

The last 3 local arcades I visited all had this game.

I think the arcade has a pro option that the console versions never had. So you could drive it like a real car sorda thing.

There are three ways to play, automatic, manual with the paddle shifter, and six speed manual with the use of the clutch. The six speed option is for very experienced players only as it is very difficult to make it around the track in good time driving with the stick.
You can also opt to play without traffic with visual cues to help you follow the proper race line. Many cabs have the optional printer attachment that gives you the option to buy a printed analysis of your performance, broken down by track sections.
F355 is really not a great arcade game. It was intended to be a very realistic interpretation of what it's like to drive the actual Ferrari. It's hyper-realism was a turn-off to arcade gamers weaned on Sega's power slide happy, adrenalin pumping, racing games of the past.
It is an incredibly deep simulator packed into an amazing cabinet and I think that it was a labor of love for Yu Suzuki that was never really intended to make a great deal of money. Ever since Outrun, he has wanted to convey the pleasure of driving a Ferrari (he's a huge enthusiast and it is rumored that he used test data from his own F355 for this game) and this is the culmination of that dream.
Here is what he had to say in the game flyer. (http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=flyer&db=videodb&id=371&image=3)

Never had a chance to play this in the arcade. I did have it on the DC and enjoyed it though.
I didn't even realize the arcade got an updated International Course Edition (http://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=721&gid=2117#2117) in a rather nice yellow version of the cab.

That's exactly the impression I got when playing the game. It's not very arcade-y at all...it's more like MS Flight simulator in a car.

I've played it at the D&B near Columbus, OH. Cool game with 3 screens for added peripheral vision, but wicked hard on pro mode with shifting, clutch, no brake assist, and no traction control.

They have this at Dave and Busters in the Pallisades mall in NY. They also have it here in CT at a place called Smiles. Its pretty cool. It definitley goes for the more realistic experiance rather than the arcade cruisin usa style racing. I love the whole incorporation of a clutch. Driving stick shit rules.

Our D&B has a plethora of Sega games, and it also has 2 Ferarri F355 Challenge machines, linked together, so I play it all the time.
And I have the Dreamcast version.

Or are there two of the big moving cabs somehow linked together? If so, that's awesome!

Just the stationary red cabinets.
But they do have 8 Dayton USA 2 machines, linked - the ones that move.
