Rumor: EDGE magazine says Animal Crossing Wii to go MMO (gonintendo.com)

This is not a confirmation from Nintendo. This comes from the latest issue of EDGE magazine.

An EDGE magazine excerpt…

“A Japanese source has confirmed to Edge that the upcoming Wii iteration of Animal Crossing is set to be a social networking MMO.”

No…this couldn’t be. If this were to happen, Nintendo will have made an awesome move with the series. It’s what fans have wanted for a long time. It’s just too good to be true! Let’s hope EDGE’s informant is on the money with this one.

As an Animal Crossing whore, I'm intrigued by this as long as my town is local (ie I don't have to log into anything), that I don't have to pay a monthly fee like an MMO and if communication between people is easy (like, um, VOICE).

Who am I kidding. If it says "Animal Crossing" on the box I'll buy it and if I don't the wife will MAKE me buy it. Then that'll be the only game that goes in the Wii for the next few years.

I really don't believe this. Considering how against anything online Nintendo has been so far I can't imagine them coming out with a MMO where you could actually talk and interact with other people. My guess is that it will be MMO with people from your friends list.

Okay, now that we have that out of the way... I think an MMO for Animal Crossing would be a great idea. I mean, the original game was so much fun but it always felt like it was lacking that social aspect.

A thought just ocurred to me. The offline AC's gave you the ability to play classic games. What if... this were to be hooked into the Virtual Console? It would be an interesting way to do classic multiplayer gaming.

I seriously doubt this will happen. I think the online portion of the game will be very similar to AC on the DS.

Sounds like a bold and natural move. I think I'm in the "I'll believe it when I see it" camp though... the way rumors and "confirmed leaks" have panned out so far this gen. If it was a rumor about Sony and they denied it, then it would be almost certainly true. lol

I agree i think it will grow a new stem from the flower or animal crossing WW. but even though it would still get good w/ voice thats all and maybe a keycode to block some a$$es out of my town for eating my damn fruit:drinking:
