I played it today at my local Gamestop. They had the full game in there kiosk. It gave me that same warm and fuzzy feeling that Super Mario 64 did when i first played it back in July of 1996 at my local Toys R Us kiosk. The gameplay is perfect, and the only thing that i had to use the motion controls for was Mario's spinning punch. And that is done the same way that you do a spin attack in Twilight Princess. I did not want to spoil the game for me, so i slowly walked away after collecting my first giant star. The game is beautiful, and it controls perfectly in my opinion. Miyamoto has struck a masterpiece again. November 13th can not come soon enough!

Famitsu gives it 10,9,9,10. A 38 is pretty fracking good! Super Mario 64 recieved a 39, while Super Mario Sunshine recieved a 37. So that would put this right in between the two. I think Super Mario Sunshine is a better game than Super Mario 64, but it was just not the groundbreaking game that Super Mario 64 was at that time. I am expecting this to be even better than both of them. Here is the link: http://gonintendo.com/?p=27894

I am ridiculously excited by this game. :-D I too loved Sunshine (though not as much as 64), and this looks just as good if not better. No platformer does it quite like Mario can. :-)

cool I have to make a trek to my local gamestop to see if they too have the demo.... I have high hopes for this one, and I doubt I will be let down.

I really liked Mario 64 but could never get into Sunshine (the freaking water cannon at the beginning annoyed me to no end) but I'll probably still check out Galaxy. But I'll probably wait for it's price to drop, first. Too many games that I have on my too play list to even touch it for 6 months or more.

Judging by how long it takes Mario games to drop in price, I'd say you might be waiting until next gen. (Unless, it's backwards compatible with the Wii, then the price will go up, if the mario cube games are any indicator.)

6 months? You'll be lucky if the price drops in 2 years. This is a Nintendo game after all.

So, is this at ALL Gamestops? I might have to stop there tomorrow...

Stopped by one of my local EB/GS today...they didn't know anything about Mario Galaxy demo and looked at me as if I was crazy?! They did however have some rig attached to a wii remote and nunchuck I hadn't seen before. Basically some coiled cords that plug into the controllers individually. Advantage is...security to keep the controllers there at all times, and yet still allow plenty of mobility to play the games. They had Metroid 3 in the system as their "demo".

This game is polished, and is going to kick some ass. I got to play it today. What a fun mario game, and a true masterpiece. It is good to see Nintendo having such an A+ title for the system this holiday.

I also saw this game in the stores this week. It was a pleasant surprise, and I didn't realize that the game is only a couple weeks away. I was prepared to wait until Christmas. Super Mario Galaxy is absolutely fantastic. It's great fun, very inventive, and a lot of the old-school platform influence. It's just like tripping through Yes album covers.

I'm tempted to sneak back to the game stores between now and November, but I also don't want to ruin things. I played through a decent enough length, although I was still very early along. I've been tempted to get a Wii, but still held out for something really great. Galaxy is more than enough for me. I'll be sorely tempted to get one when the next paycheck arrives two Fridays from now.

I wrote my Mario Galaxy review/essay at Videogames of the Damned. It's a fairly long piece, but it's broken into two parts to make things easier. Lemmie know what you think, pass it along, yadda yadda.

I saw it at the local Gamestop today. Too many people there to play it (as always at that store) but it looked really good. Definately looked more enjoyable than Sunshine. Went around the corner to Target and reserved a copy. Target I guess will give you a special coin if you reserve with them by the 28th and the special Mario reserve card. Are any other stores giving away anything special if you reserve with them?

I as well refuse to play the demo, or even look at it. Infact I am trying to remain so spoiler free of this game that all I have watched so far are like 2-3 short videos, one being the e3 one with the bee, the original first shown trailer, and the one that shows what the start of the game is like. I want to be completely blown away.

I'm getting more interested in this game as time goes along. Might be the first game to break me away from my 360 for a while. Problem is I'll have to find a Wii before the game comes out. Heh.

I wish I had a Gamespot by me that I could try Mario Galaxy because from all the information i've seen of it makes it look really blah to me, just as bad as Mario Sunshine was

I really think this will be really mediocre, I would have rather seen this get delayed and Smash Brothers being released

You'll probably laugh at me, but I'm pre-ordering SMG for two reasons:

- Pretty coin...
- Need something to hold me off until Brawl

I hated SMS, but loved SM64, so I might like SMG (I'll have to check out the demo...)

I tried the kiosk demo over the weekend for like 2 seconds. The gamestop employee was playing it for a while. I went to the store with my mother (I am 25 years old) but we get along great and both love games. Me and her were watching the guy play the game and my mother LOVES the opportunity to give people a hard time (jokingly). She goes, "how come he won't let you have a turn." and I was like "yeah where is my turn ha ha ha, just kinding I'll just watch." but the kid I think started thinking we were serious so he hands me the controllers, I play for like 5 seconds and he reset the fucking machine on me. Of course me knowing my mother she was like "hey you did that on purpose". The whole time we were just trying to be friendly with the guy and have fun and he got pissed and reset the game on me. What is up with that? well I just had to tell that story cuz I thought it was hilarious that this guy was just so up tight, that was my mario Galaxy story from over the weekend lol.

You seemed to have forgotten that most people, especially Americans, are messed up in the head and seriously up-tight and don't know how to react when they're being kidded with. You're lucky he didn't either hit you and your mother in your faces with pepper spray and/or call the police.

yeah I guess so, it wasn't until Mario Galaxy that opened my eyes to that whole thing :/ no big deal but damn man, I thought gamestop employees were technically not supposed to play the kiosk demos. I coulda cared less about playing it right then and there, but he was really uptight about it and reset it on me. I think its kind of funny though, my mom is going to get me shot one of these days.

Played it today at gamestop. Loved it! Although I can already tell the camera perspectives are going to give me the same sense of confusion as Portal did.

Fun story-I couldn't get the machine to recognize the nunchuk, so I decided to turn off the controller and try again. Well, whoops! Forgot it turns off the wii. What followed was about 10 minutes of trying to get it all back up and running.

I thought that was odd, but this particular GS has great management and cool, unpretentious, very un-knowitall employees so I actually like going there... so I preordered from them. The coin is neat and all, but it's not that big a deal. Good employees at a GS are much more valuable than a Mario coin. ;)

I was at the Nintendo World Store last night and saw a few people playing Super Mario Galaxy. It looks good! I also saw people playing Battalion Wars 2, Guitar Hero III, and MLB Power Pros. More good stuff.

This holiday season is going to be huge:

Battalion Wars 2
Guitar Hero III
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga
Link's Crossbow Training
Manhunt 2
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
Medal of Honor Heroes 2
MLB Power Pros
NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams
Rayman Raving Rabbids 2
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
Soulcalibur Legends
Super Mario Galaxy
Trauma Center: New Blood
WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2008
Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure
etc.

Alright, I'm seriously going to have to stop playing this game. I have to hold out until it's out and I can buy it. This is assuming, of course, that I could find a Nintendo Wii available somewhere. I think I saw one at Target on Monday. That's right - one box. It was only the second time I ever saw Wii's stocked there.

The game is furiously addicting. It's Mario, only more so. I've said as much before, like in my Galaxy essay (don't worry, there aren't any spoilers, so you can read it), but I'm surprised at how much of the old-school platformer style is present in this game. Even early on - I've managed to uncover 9 or 10 galaxies by this point - there are several worlds that depend on platform jumping, moving floors, bounding over gaps, yadda yadda.

One really great thrill is the waterpark. I won't spoil anything for those who haven't seen it yet (hint: game stores), but it's really terrific fun. Now I REALLY want a Wave Race on the Wii. No doubt this waterpark world will be spun off into its own game; at least it should be. Then again, I said the very same about those penguin races from Super Mario 64. I was sure there was gonna be a Penguins-On-Ice game.

Well, this is my fault for trolling around the game stores at the Megamall and downtown Mpls every day. I really have to stay away from Mario for a while, lest I play through the whole game in the stores.

Hopefully, a week from Friday, I'll have scored a Wii with Mario in tow. Uh, maybe. We'll see.

No, there's nothing like that. You can play as long as you want, or at least until guilt sets in and you let some other kid have a try. I'm really trying not to hog the game too much, you know.

One thing that's really impressed me is that Galaxy is grabbing attention from a lot of kids. A few grownups, too, but the parents will use their kids as an excuse ("uh, I'll buy this for little Suzy..."). There's definitely that hook, moreso than really anything else out there. Maybe it's just because there hasn't really been a proper Mario game for so many years - Super Mario 64 really was the last one. It's such a novelty compared to all the shooters and gritty dark games. It grabs your imagination, young and old. I can see this game becoming a classic for kids the way Super Mario Bros was many years ago. And adults (like me) who grew up on videogames will feel that nostalgia push. Super Mario Galaxy really does feel like those classic games, while staying very fresh and new.

Again, the full game is available anywhere Nintendo Wii stations are found. Game controllers have finally been hooked up to them, and unless the store employees are jerks, you can play to your heart's content. This might be your only way to play for a while (I'm expecting sellouts everywhere).

Alright...let's stop the veiled Super Mario Sunshine bashing. Most of us can agree it wasn't as good as SM64...BUT...it's still a better game than 98% of all the games released last generation.

I think Sunshine is probably the most misunderstood and unjustly disliked game of all time. I'll never understand why. The non-F.L.U.D.D. levels are some of the BEST levels ever designed in a Mario game. The F.L.U.D.D. levels are excellent as well. Once you get used to the mechanics, it's fun as hell.

It's probably useless at this point, but I will defend Sunshine to my dying day.

The problem with SMS is it was based entirely around a gimmick, instead of being based around a solid core of gameplay with a sprinkling of gimmicks to change the mood. It's like Nintendo had made SMB3 with every level a Kuribo shoe.

Don't worry, I'm with ya on this :D I personally think its one of the best Mario games ever made. The level design was so well-made, in my opinion, especially the level with the boats where you have to climb up the metal framing to get to the Shine Sprite. Most of the game really requires thinking more than anything else, and I love that.

Certain Best Buy locations sold the game this week already. The "street date" was apparently uncertain. Some boxes had "Do not sell before November 13th" stamped on them and some didn't A few of the stores that were shipped the non-street dated boxes put the games out on the salesfloor. Most of the BB's that sold it early were around the Minneapolis area (near BB headquarters). No such luck around here.

well I just picked up my copy today but can't play it till later. Did anybody check out that coin it comes with when you pre-order? looks better than I thought it would be. It even comes in its own case with a certificate of authenticity. I figured they'd just put it in a little piece of plastic like they did with the Oblivion Collectors Edition coin.

Picked it up at lunch. Now the wait begins.

Did anyone else notice there's more things written in French on the back than in English? Not a big deal, just strange. For a second I thought Best Buy might have gotten a goofy shipment.

im sure it is, glad its got great reviews, now unless Mario SS didnt come out(it was O.K.) then Mario would be on a hot streak and its Miyamotos first directed game since Zelda:OOT and before that Mario 64. So his first Mario directed game in 11 years.

Sadly, Sunshine got almost as good of reviews (91.6% at gamerankings.com) as M64 (95.7%) and Galaxy's so far (97.4%)

I went to pick it up on my lunch break at Gameslop. It was the only game store within driving distance from where I work. I waited behind a guy for about 10 minutes who was trading in some games. I was trying really hard to be patient. As soon as the guy got done, the phone rang. The assclown behind the counter was going to take the phone call after I had patiently waited my turn! Would not have been that big of a deal had there not been ANOTHER assclown in the back room sitting and doing nothing. He told the clerk at the counter that Michael Myers was chasing him. I don't have a clue what that was all about. I know my foot was about to be chasing their asses! The phone abruptly quit ringing. The clerk asked how he could help me. Yes! Finally I was about to lay hands on some brand new Mario goodness!

Me: Yeah, do ya'll got that Mario Galaxy?

Clerk: Yeah! Wait a minute, did you preorder?

Me: Nope.

Him: Oh sorry, we only have preorder copies left.

Me: YAY!!!

Is this game killing anyone else's neck?

I keep turning my damned head upside down to follow mario around the planet.

It's really awesome, though.

I go to Best Buy or Fry's for most. Gamestop can be frustrating sometimes. The manager at mine knows me well so I would be able to get it anyways but i feel for you dude. Just don't go back there I say.

Yeah I'll probably just swing by Wally World and pick it up tonite. I just didn't see this one being hard to find on launch day.

Not a neck cramp, but the controller was playing hell with my hand.

I got 12 stars in and had to give it a break for awhile.

Totally awesome game, though. Well worth the wait.

Stupid Target. I preordered with them but even though they have it at the store they won't let you buy it until tomorrow.

Picked this up about an hour ago. Collected three stars and I can tell it'll be a winner. Just the vibe it's giving me so early in the game tells me Nintendo has released something great upon us. :)

I've been burned too much by the mustached one lately, so I'll be giving this sucker a rent, no matter how many people are praising this game. Seeing as though hardly anyone in my city has a Wii, it might not be difficult to do so.

I've so far only played about 10 minutes of the game. I have homework that I have to finish up before I can put any time into the game. Though, the little bit I have played is freakin sweet. I can't wait until tomorrow evening when I will have my relaxing time of the week.

I really like the game so far but the running around upside down on the planet made me a bit nauseous at first. Really interested to see how the game develops.

I have about 5 stars...trying to find time to play more of Galaxy in between the other 3-4 games I have been juggling (Xenosaga, Guitar Hero's, Mario Sonic Olympics...). But I am loving everything about it so far. Honestly have not found one thing to complain about. Controls are great, enironments are gorgeous, and it has the same great gameplay and feel of the great 64 version. Thank you Nintendo.
Oh and the pre-order coin is excellent...though I think I like the box art and presentation of the coin more than the actual coin itself.

Man I'm miffed. Got the game at Target yesterday but they said they didn't get any of the coins in! I have to call back today to see if they got them.

7 1/2 hours in, 48 stars collected. This game is incredibly amazing, and the only time I've stopped is because I had to go to work. One of the best games in a long, long time.
