I found a store selling GH3 early tonight, so I picked up a copy. Unfortunately, any time I complete a song, the end animation starts to play and my system just locks up. I don't think it's RROD or anything like that, but I guess it's possible. I've already unplugged my HD drive and all other non-essentials from the system.

Anybody else out there have this and not having this problem?

Defective copy maybe? If it's not random, then it's probably not your box, but that's what mine did before it died.

Possibly a defective copy, but I'm starting to lean more towards impending doom. I pulled my net connection and it started working just fine. So I got brave and killed it, reconnected to the net, and it still worked fine.

It would be my luck that it dies right when I get GH3 and won't be back in time for Rock Band...

How about live not ready to receive the GH III scores after each song since it's supposed to go live only Sunday?...

That's it, Microsoft knows you're breaking street date... :P

Yeah, that's what mine starting doing when I first got Halo 3. And then it worked fine for a week or 2 and then died completely on me when I got Orange Box.. so now I'm waiting to get it back now.

When mine did it, the graphics would kinda have a checkerboard pattern when the screen froze, though.. so if you're not getting that then it might have just been your internet connection causing it. As that does happen if all your bandwidth is being used up for some reason.

What? Online scoreboards are already up, according to Kotaku.

Also, a comment in that post says that some copies are locking up after the songs end, so it's not just you.

I agree with some of the other posters Darren :/ Mine started doing the same thing a few weeks before the big RROD.

This is a hardware problem, not a software problem. The locking up has nothing to do with the 3 RROD, it just means your 360 is old and unable to load certain parts of games. Dead Rising strained many a 360 during loading sequences too. If you return the game I guarantee you each GHIII disc you try will lock up in the same places.

The RROD is caused by the GPU separating from the CPU due to excessive heat. If your game locks up with a checkerboard pattern on the screen it's RROD, if not, you just need a new 360.

I think many of us would agree that their machines started actually locking up before the fatal crash. Mine first froze up in a game of Worms... then later in Saint's Row, etc. It worked fine for a few days, then started locking more often. On the last week, it RROD'd, booted back up a few more times afterwards successfully, then finally went to RROD and never went any further.

Well, I guess I won't be all that surprised if it does finally die. It's had a hard life. Besides, I've been wanting an excuse to buy an elite!!

Interestingly enough, there was an update for GH3 waiting this morning. I'm connected to the net again and so far, so good. Maybe it was some strange software issue. Seems odd to have a patch out before the game!

If you're trying to say he has a disc drive problem, I don't think that's the case, as it would also be random, data is data.

But like most of us have said, this is usually a precursor to RROD anyway.

Strange... I've had mine since Thursday and haven't had any issues whatsoever. I was even able to play an online match without any problems (except for the fact that I got absolutely slaughtered, but that's not the 360's fault... :))

The only weird thing I've seen is that the list of achievements for the game wasn't available on xbox.com, but I haven't checked since Thursday night. The achievements are unlockable, though.

Sometimes it isn't random at all. There are several cases of games locking up at specific scenes/parts of the game. Dead Rising, Just Cause, and Obilvion have all had certain parts that lock up older 360's. I was thinking maybe GHIII had a similar problem.
