I tried doing this the polite and easy way. I emailed the seller and asked if I could pick the items up, since it's a hell of a lot to ship. He said okay, if you pay for the bins, $40. Not a problem I tell him. He asks me to make an offer and he'll consider ending the auction early. At this time the bid is $125. I offer him $200, absurdly low but nearly 200% of current bid. He responds by telling me that he's already turned down offers (but apparently not bids... sure...) of $900 and $1500. Then he emails me and tells me:

"You nearly 200% is a joke, if you paid attention to the auctions on
ebay, you would see that a good working Atari with 20 games is worth
about 100.00, I have almost ten of those, that does not include the
other items. Anyway, you won't have to worry about bidding, and I won't
worry about you offending me with your lousy bids."

I tried to bid again and I'm blocked from bidding. All because he didn't like my offer. I apparently can't bid again, but if anyone who wants to drive to ME wants it, they can really really get a LOT of stuff for practically no cash from this guy. I suspect his demand of $300 shipping is scaring off real bids... it's going to end very soon.

Actually $300 shipping doesn't sound all that far fetched.

Other then the 35 in 1 Genesis Multicart, there is NOTHING on this auction that could be considered rare, and all together this shit isn't worth the shipping price alone, let alone the current $125 bid.

I never understood why people post these huge lots of assorted junk. Sure, there are game stores and junk stores that like to get lots of systems to sell and a game or two, but no normal gamer, not even a hardcore one, would be willing to pay the outrageous shipping costs.

I wouldn't even consider bidding a penny on this auction unless it had a flat shipping rate. This is just begging for price gouging.

But don't rip the bastard off with phony bids, because then you lower yourself to his level.

I hope his auction doesn't go over $200. He really should of taken the $1500 offer, but I doubt that happened. That would be way too much too pay for so much junk.

I doubt it will get $200. I even offered to drive 144 miles each way to pick the crap up and save him the trouble, then went so far as to agree to even pay for his damn bins. He responded by blocking me from bidding. Now THERE is someone who could have run a customer oriented business.

It would be funny to see him open that vintage rental store only to see that his inventory wouldn't stand up to rental abuse.

It ended at $561 (not counting $300 shipping or $40 tubs). Will someone email him and ask him why he turned down the $1500 offer. >) LOL

There was one interesting idea that the seller had:

"I was originally going to start a vintage video game rental store"

Seriously, why has'nt anyone in a good location done this? :)

The 2nd highest bidder sells "NINTENDO Premium 72 pin NES connector $1.00". Yeah they are so much better than my crappy ass Nintendo brand connectors.

Uh, because the only thing that woudl happen is idiots would rent your old hardware and break it? Do you really think 20 year old Atari would stand up to that type of abuse? Have you ever seen what people do to rented items?

Yeah, I do have some idea of what rental items go through -- growing up, my Mom managed a video store, and for about five years I was responsbile for telling her which NES games to buy for the store. I got first dibs on the new stuff before it even went out, and could also ask for stuff to br brought home at any time. That was a golden time. :D

Let me re-phrase that by saying I think it's a COOL idea. I did'nt say it was pratical. ;)
