Was just wondering if i was the only idiot who customized there NES, to match the rest of there stuff. I took my NES top cover off, and sprayed it black to go along with my VCR, TV and PS2. Matches pretty good! =) Pic below, (hopefully!)

Well, I'm a purist, and prefer original for all my stuff. That said, that is a very tasteful mod.

Good Show!
:-D

How'd you get a plant to grow out of it, and how do you water the NES?
;)

the plant, well that was hard work =), haha Seriously, thanks for the compliment! Most of my friends that are over, didnt even realize it was a NES at first =) I got some mods up my sleeve for my Super Nintendo as well.....

If your gonna paint a SNES, make sure it's a yellowed one. Don't paint a pristine grey one! Horrors!

For a while now, I've been drawing up plans to make an exceedingly tasteless mod for my extra NES. I'm normally not one of the people who "rices" their computer, or car, or whatnot in the least (I have a small tachometer measuring CPU load installed on my computer, that's it), but I think that a totally 'tricked out' NES would be... well, novel at least.

So..... I'm working on getting it painted with a high grade faux chrome, installing an array of LEDs in the shape of Mario's head (w/ full color), along with adding additional video outputs. When it gets done (which will probably be a long time, since I have little time to work on it, though I have gotten started already), it will be a sight to see, that's pretty much beyond debate.

simonbelmont7 you have inspired me! I most now find a extra NES to paint.

The plant's an especially nice touch. 8-)

Wow. After seeing how much cooler the NES can be with just a coat of black paint, imagine what one could do with two types of paint! :) I'm going to customize one of mine this week!

thank ya thank ya, *takes a bow* =) Im really surprised though, that nobody else on this board has done such a thing. My NES stays out with in the living room with all the other stuff, so it had to match =) Wait till ya see the controllers........ =)

I have an NES that I did in woodgrain about 5 years ago. The top, orginally light grey, is woodgrain, and the bottom, the darker grey, is black. Certainly looks better than the original. I'd post pictures of it, but it is somewhere at my parents.

The mother of all NES mods:

Too bad the price was insane.

At first I thought the NES was upside down, excellent work, the dedication of gamers that frequent this board continues to amaze me LOL

I did a couple of things to "trick out" my NES's, though most of them not very cosmetic. I replaced the red LED with a green one on one system, a yellow one on another. A couple of decals/Badtz Maru stickers for no reason at all thrown in, too. The biggest difference is the "Stereo Sound" mod, where I took the noise and triangle signals into one speaker and the bass in the other. It even has a pot that lets you adjust the level of "mixing", that is, separation of the channels into left and right speakers (a crossfader of sorts). If you mix em just right, and turn the bass up, you can make the walls shake. I found the instructions on how to do this on the web a few years ago, unfortunately the guy's site seems to have bit the dust and I forgot his name so I can't credit him. A great little mod.

That looks nice. Is that just regular spray paint? How does the paint hold up, does it flake off at all if it gets scratched?

Krylon (I think) is advertising new spray paint made just for plastics.

held up great! The prep work is the key. Prep is the key to painting anything. (thats my profession by the way, commerical painter) I sanded the cover down real good, one to get rid of the smooth shiny finish, and 2, to give the paint a way to adhere to the plastic. Rough it up a bit basically. Then cleaned it good with alcohol, then used GOOD flat black spray paint, not the 75 cent walmart stuff. Let the fist coat dry for at least 6 hrs, then slap on a second, and the next day you got a new NES =)

So, don't you end up with a painted NES that's full of scratches in the plastic? Or does the paint act as a sort of fill in there?

theres not really any scratching done with fine grit sand paper, but if there are any the paint does fill them. Mine has a perfectly smooth finish, but i did go with a flat black paint so it wouldnt be shiny =)
