Near as I can tell, it appears to be the most appealing home version of this game. Not to mention near zero loading, which Saturn and PS1 cannot top.

Some sticklers may tell you that the Saturn version is somehow more accurate in terms of graphics or animation, but I don't know, I had both at the same time and tried comparing them directly and couldn't really see any difference.
However, now there's also the Xbox360 version, which I've never played, but is supposed to be pretty good. A few changes were made to the combo system, I think, but nothing major. And of course, that one is actually playable online, which none of the other versions are, so that's a pretty major advantage.
I love the Dreamcast version, though. The most notable thing about it is certainly the two additional modes, Super Puzzle Fighter II Y and Z. If you think of the original X mode as similar to Puyo Puyo, then the Y mode is like Columns and plays quite like that in terms of being much more chaotic and random while the Z mode which is a little bit like Tetris Attack, though instead of just swapping two pieces at a time like in Tetris Attack, you rotate whole groups of four pieces either clockwise or counterclockwise. It's cool, but not as simple and addicting as a true Tetris Attack-style mode would have been. Both additional modes offer a nice change of pace and style, though, so they're great additions to the game.

The Dreamcast version is excellent... however, it's rather expensive and some of the menus are in japanese (some are in english, some are in japanese... what sense does that make?). Unless you're a huge Dreamcast fan, I'd suggest you go with one of the cheaper, more easily available versions.
The Y and Z modes are included in the XBLA version, right?

I can confirm that they are in the PSP version, which is excellent.

I had this on the DC and it's a very good conversion. Iirc, it's one of those games (along with Vampire Chronicle fMS) that for some god-unknown reason doesn't support RGB. You have to run either composite or VGA. I have SSF2X on CPS2 cart now....
EDIT. You're on about Puzzle Fighter. D'oh... Don't mind me.

I'm just trying to get used to the 3 different modes. X mode is where you destroy blocks with the crash gems, right? And Y is sorta like Tettris? I never played Puyo Puyo so I really can't compare it...

Bought this new back when it first came out; easily the best version IMO.
Nice to hear it's hard-to-find and valuable, kekeke.
Most of my DC collection seems to fit that description, since well over 80% of it is made up of imports...
