I dont know where the best place is to post this but i think this would be very cool if its possible.
extract the hidden translated psp version of dracula x and convert it back to a working image that could be burned and
played on a real pc-engine or turbo duo.

as far as i can tell the psp ver is emulated and not a conversion. if this is true maybe the rest could be very possible.
this may be a long shot but some one with the right psp skills could extract the data then pass it over to some one
with pc-engine skills to reformat every thing to make it play able on the real hardware.

the other cool possibility would be to hack the psp pc-engine emulator to run other cd images on the psp.
dreaming of playing lords of thunder on a psp!!

You can already do that with the current TG16/PCE emulators for the PSP. I got Dracula X working once on mine.

why go through all that trouble. Dracula X is already on the duo and duo game are easy to make "backups" of.

sounds like a cool idea. would prefer to have a translated version.

Unlikely to work, as the music files are stored in ac3 format. Also factor in you cant get into the data tracks for the PCE version and view anything in a file based format (if those data tracks did indeed store the data in that way).

SOTN is more likely, but still unlikely due to the way they tacked on the extra features and the fact that all the music is AC3 for that as well.

I don't think the AC3 would be a problem. Getting all the tracks aligned with the program with read-by-sector again would be, though...and if the game's reprogrammed (and not emulated), things get even worse.

The music shouldn't be a huge problem... just rip it from the existing Japanese version of the original.

I'd love to see this done... would it be technically legal to release a patch that could be applied to an original ISO? Or would the contents of the patch (ie, the translated text) be considered copyrighted material still?

Nope, distributing copyrighted material and potentially reverse engineering (if it's covered in the user agreement somewhere). If the reverse engineering part isn't included, maybe you could make a patch that moves data from the DXC executable to the original ISO (...that'd be a feat).

That would be the main issue, unless I'm mistaken and someone took apart the original Rondo ISO and found the locations of the files within (if it indeed uses such a format)

Mainly because they're probably in totally different formats, programmed for different platforms...but even so byte swaps are difficult, even if CRCs don't need to be checked

rip the psp game, mount it's image, try to find where the part of the game you want is.

then run it through jaeder naub or a hex editor and see if you get plain text anywhere. if it works, then you've got your script. then just hack it into the turbo game like any other fan translation?

Someone I know was working on translating Dracula X. He got pretty far, but I dropped out of the translation scene a couple of months ago, so I have no idea if he quit because of this.

You're better off checking romhacking.net and ask there.

Wait, youre talking about ripping the actual original Dracula X game off of Dracula X Chronicles? The game doesnt let you stretch it to fit the widescreen of the PSP so Im wondering how cramped it would look on a TV :( I'd go with just translating the Japanese subtitles in the original and hack it into the PC-E game. I liked the original German voice over in the PC-E version over the new one in Dracula X Chronicles.....

worrying about copyrights is not the issue(broke more than 50,000 of those counting teh romz and isos sets)((still have an s-load of originals))
and its not about just patching the original japanese version.
its about pulling the full image off the psp udm and then getting it to run on real hardware.
the ps ver has more changes than just the txt translation there are other changes here and there.
i have the original import and played it to death earning a 100%.
it would just be very cool to have a slightly different ver of the game.
in a odd twist it could be like a new turbo duo release many years after its death.
just the thought would be too cool for a big turbo/pce fans !

how good are the home brew pce emulators?
so far i have had no luck running any on my slim yet. just got my slim and changed the firmware cool stuff.
but in some cases professional emulators work better.
so ripping that from the psp dracula x and using it the same way they did with the psx games could be a good thing.
