When I bought my 360 back in February, I bought 3 games with it: Burnout Revenge, Dead Rising and Gears of War. Fiance loves Burnout so she plays that, I love Gears and I kinda start playing Dead Rising. I lost interest relatively quickly because I didn't have an HDTV at the time and I thought it was just too much work for what it was. I am not at all a fan of timed escort missions. As a result of not being able to see all the detail in the game, I lost the main story a good portion of the way in with no reasonably backtracked save to use. I lost heart and quit.

Fast forward about 8 months.

I bought an HDTV back in the late spring and had many other games to play at the time. Dead Rising didn't even cross my mind. Then Halloween rolled around and I started looking for a good zombie movie to watch. Dead Rising caught my eye on the other shelf and I said "hey, I never did finish this one." I pop in the disc and am blown away by the fact that I can now read the on-screen text! Wow, that DOES make the game much more playable. I finished out the saved game I had so I could get an ending, learn a lot more about the mall and build up Frank's levels. I started a new game with a beefed up Frank, bad pun and just tore through the game. I saved a few people and took out quite a few psychopaths (scarier than the zombies IMO), but my main focus was the story. I finished the 72 hour mode and overtime mode, only to be very disappointed with the "true" ending. Am I the only one that felt like the true ending was not worth the effort it took to achieve?

Anyway, I certainly feel much better about this game now that I went back and took the time to finish it, minus the ending.

You beat overtime mode? How the hell do you beat the guy on top of the tank? It's been 15 months and I still can't get past that part. Great game (up to that part).

Three words: don't stop moving. It took me a few tries to get him, and even then I made it out by the skin of my teeth with a level 35 Frank. I mostly ran all around the tank, giving him jump kicks in a stick-and-move fashion. If you try to go at him toe to toe, you will lose. If I was feeling lucky I would try a spinning lariat as that deals massive damage when it connects without him blocking. However, the lariat is really vulnerable to his neck breaker move and you run the risk of falling into the sea of zombies if you're not careful.

I was completely disappointed with Dead Rising. I play it for about ten minutes at a time. I run around, kill a few zombies then I'm done with it.

Dead Rising blew me away. The story is good (you need at least a few playthroughs to experience everything) but I have to agree with the topic creator, the true ending isn't that great. I don't regret playing through to the end though, as the final part (tunnels, etc) are really enjoyable.

The sheer amount of stuff you can do is amazing, with the variety in weapons, missions, etc. It's definitely one of my favorite games of this generation. :)

Good for two playthroughs for me, haven't touched it since.

I loved Dead Rising, only two things put me off about it. the save system, and the breakable weapons, i hate having weapons break in a game.
