Hello all. I just cant imagine how this came to be, Im SO careful with the system..but..

I always am careful with the system and my wife is as well. When not in use we keep it wrapped in a thick terrycloth towel in fact. We went to turn it on the other day after it has sat dormant for a few months, and the screen has a thick "band" accross the middle of the screen. :( I tried cleaning it, swapping games, everything...and nothing changes. The sound and graphics are fine, but that wide thick band of distortion wont allow for game play...frustrates me to no end. So then, for you tech people out here, is my Nomad salvagable, or is it time for the dumpster? :(

Any help is greatly appreciated..

I don't know a whole lot about LCD screens, but if it's a band where nothing shows up, then that line of pixels is essentially dead. The connection to that line is probably dead.

check this out it shows how the LCD screen works: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/lcd4.htm

Stuff like this happens over time no matter how careful you are unfortunately.

My game Gear had the same thing. Try buying a new LCD and replacing it Or buy a new $100 nomad again.

pixels generally dont go bad in a band such as your saying, it almost sounds like an internal connector has come loose.

some of those are impossible to get to hook back up because theyre not general connectors like we imagine would be, some times theyre rubberery things
