View Full Version : Should a Pioneer Laseractive controller work with a Genesis?

I have a Pioneer Laseractive controller, model CPD-S1. It's a six button controller that looks like a Genesis controller, but it's actually a pioneer laseractive controller. I tried plugging it into a Genesis, but none of the buttons seem to work when used with Genesis. I can move the guy around on screen with the D-Pad, but the buttons don't do anything. Is this controller broken? It seems strange that all 6 buttons don't work, so I'm guessing it's just not fully compatible with a Genesis. I would try with a Pioneer Laseractive, but I don't have one.

Update: I tried the CPD-S1 on a Genesis 2 with SF2. I couldn't start the game with the start button on the CPD-S1. So then I used a regular Genesis controller and started the game. Then I switched to the CPD-S1 and I could move my guy around the screen, and the X,Y and Z button worked. The A,B,C buttons didn't work, but I forgot to select 6 button controller in the options, so that was maybe why they didn't work. I'm thinking that Pioneer Laseractives aren't really compatible with Genesis systems, even tho you would think they would be.

The CPD-S1 is just a rebranded Genesis controller and the Laseractive works fine with regular 6-button Genesis controllers.

I'd say there's a 99% chance it's your controller that's broken.

I'll try and get around to hooking up my sega cluster sometime today and try it out. I've got a Laseractive 6-button, and it works fine on the laseractive itself.

The LaserActive controller is 100% compatible with Genesis systems (well, as far as compatibility with six button controllers go), all models including the JVC X'Eye. Open and clean your button contacts.

yea genesis controllers seem especially prone to crapping out after years of storage out of the 5 controllers i have none of them worked after a few years in storage popped them all open and cleaned the contacts and they work like brand new.

Yeah, the Laseractive controller should indeed work with any Genesis. I have a JVC Wondermega controller and it works perfectly on any Genesis. As was stated before, its just a rebranded Genesis controller, so it just may be that your controller is having its own issues...
