Vib Ribbon trouble

So I've got this copy of Vib Ribbon, and of course, I want to play it with my own cd collection, right? Well, this is where the trouble lies...

For some of my cds, it just plain won't read the first track. It's a nuisance right now, but my playstation has seen alot of play over the years (its from 96-97), and I'm wondering if it's just feelin its age, and I need to replace the laser assembly. Before I shell out the cash though, I'd like to know if anyone else has had this problem, or if its normal, or whatever.

How are you playing the Vib Ribbon? On a JP PSX, on a mod-chipped U.S. PSX, or on a non-modded U.S. PSX using a boot disc/swap trick?

It's running on a modded PSX. Cds like Burning Organ or one of my hendrix ones work fine, but other ones like tempest 2k or puffy just won't go. It's a pain.

Well, shoot. I've got Vib Ribbon and a modded PSone, but I haven't gotten around to playing it with my own CDs. If I run into the same problem, though, I'll let you know.

My first PSX had those symptoms and eventually wore down to the point where it wouldn't play anything - or it would tease me by loading a game and then promptly crash at the most inopportune time.

One thing that may solve your problem short term, try playing it on its side or even upside-down. I'm not kidding.

It does sound like my original though, so this may only stave off the problem temporarily.

Well, the playstation certainly would appear to be the trouble...I picked up a used copy of puzzle fighter a few weeks ago and it worked fine on every playstation console I tried it on but mine. On mine, it would only load up to the capcom logo. I tried cleaning the game and rebuffing it, but none of that worked...so, it looks like sooner or later I'm gonna be taking it in for repair work.
