Are these special or just different? The black and white booklets are each of the manuals translated into Japanese.

Here are better shots of the Japanese manual covers.

bump...there's gotta be an Odyssey^2 collector out there who can give me the low down, even if it's just to tell me they're not worth much to anyone unless one can only read Japanese.

Really? I know the Atari 2800 is highly sought after due to its rarity and also due to fond memories amongst Western collectors. I...well, I hit up Google, and found this:

The important part is that the O^2 was released in...December 1982, waaaay too late. Even without the Famicom and (lol) the 2800 around, I can't imagine it fared too well against what was already on the market.

Wiki notes that it was "apparently not very successful...O^2 merch is now very difficult to find," which leads me to the following conclusions:

OMG RARE L@@K

$$$$$$

In other words, sweet find! :)

Ed,

Thanks, not only for your evaluation, but also for your explanation of how you came to it. This is nice to know, not only because of them being worth a little more but because of that whole "ooo, I found something interesting!" feeling. :D

I think to the right collector they are probably worth something. I don't think they have the same collector's value as the Atari 2800 games as those had customized boxes for the Japanese market. The O2 games just basically have a Kanji sticker on the side and a low quality manual inserted in the box with no other changes to the game, cartridge sticker or box itself. Still, it's a great find and something not too many collectors outside of Japan have.

I've never seen them. I have a book on Japanese consoles and I remember the Odyssey 2 being in there. Japanese Intellivision games are similar, the have a Japanese instruction manual stuck in the back. I think the generally sell for $10-$20 each.

Definately a sweet find, but rarity != value. I have games that are extremely hard to find (as in less than 3 know copies to exist, but since there is also no demand for them, i would be happy if i could get more than $10 for each)
