Turbo Zone Direct is having a sale, and I want to pick up some of the games. However, I haven't played any they have for sale. I was interested in the following:

Dungeon Master
Buster Bros
Shape Shifter

If anyone has played these, please tell me if you recommend them or not.

I recommend Buster Bros, its basically Pang under another name :) (or Vice-versa, i grew up with the name Pang!)

I'm not familiar with the other two but Buster Bros is indeed something you should get, but I'm sure you know why otherwise you wouldn't have listed it. :)

Dungeon Master -- never played it, but I heard it was criticized for being slow.

Shapeshifter is a metroid-style adventure game. Picture an exploration-based Legendary Axe. Some people love it, but it does have its share of detractors too, since it's quite difficult, tough to control (a bit), and you can only save in one spot. When I bought it back in 1993, I was disappointed with it (and especially its difficulty), but now I appreciate it for its long quest and great artwork and music.

Buster Bros. is of course a classic 2-player arcade game. Fantastic, mindless fun!

I just got my order from TZD today, which included two of these games (I already had ShapeShifter)... my impressions:

Dungeon Master - I'm a huge fan of the original Dungeon Master, and I was a little worried that this version would be highly bastardized, but I'm actually very impressed with how they handled this port! The game (like the original PC game) is a 3D dungeon crawl with an emphasis placed on solving puzzles (there are lots of buttons, levels, pressure plates and stuff like that), but there's also a lot of combat and spellcasting too. The original version just had one large dungeon, while this version features seven separate dungeons, each one quite a bit smaller than the one in the original. It's made so you can get into the game faster. Someone mentioned it's slow-paced, but you actually get rare and interesting items far faster than you did in the original. Unfortunately, none of the original characters are available in this version, though it seems you can switch out your party members between dungeons. The one bad thing about this game is that the controls are somewhat poor. It's really meant to be played with a mouse and keyboard, and trying to play it with a gamepad makes things rather difficult, though I think they did a pretty good job of compensating for it. Anyone know if this game works with the PC Engine mouse? If so, I might just have to look for one on eBay...

Buster Bros - A classic game that showed up on many consoles, sometimes under the name Pang. This is a pretty good version, and has CD music as a bonus. If you liked the arcade version, you'll like this one, but there's nothing really exceptional about it. If you've never played the game before, I'd suggest you try it out in MAME, or try out the SNES version in an emulator.

Shape Shifter - When I bought this one, I was hoping for something along the lines of Castlevania... Well, it's definitely not Castlevania, but it has a somewhat similar style. I haven't played it very far, so I can't comment on the difficulty (it actually seemed pretty easy from what I've played, though I've only just gotten the first transformation, so there's still a long way to go). The game actually has a storyline that is enforced pretty well through character interaction (all via spoken dialog, thanks to the CD). I think it's definitely worth playing.

Do they have Neutopia III?

I was so pissed after the ending of the second one, Dirth's still not dead. Then in the closing credits where it says "Watch out for Neutopia III in 199x" I thought it's Shenmue all over again. Another trilogy not completed :(

Anyhow, continue your thread, I just wanted to let off some steam.
