May 15th... Sony will release a PS2 that can play recordable DVDs. Oh yeah, and it also has reduced fan noise. :)

I don't get it. Game companies hate that people copy (steal) games yet they will help them play the burned games.

I don't think that's quite the case. Since the price of DVD recorders has dropped to $200 or so for many models, I've seen a few people in my neighborhood who have made "home" movies on DVD. What better way to display these "treasures" than on a machine that's already outfitted to play DVDs?

I don't think this revision has any impact on piracy one way or the other. As far as I know, any PS2 can read a burned DVD game, as long as it is modded.

Even though it can play Burned DVD's, there is STILL protection in place, so you WILL have to still mod your PS2 to play backups. (I COULD be wrong on this.)
