After reading the discussion about Telenet's demise, no one mentioned about what's currently being done with the Valis property. In their death throes, Telenet did license Eants to make the Valis X hentai games everyone hates so much. (myself included) But they apparently sold Valis to Kill Time Communications, a manga publisher in Japan. (or someone else who is licensing it to Kill Time) We know Valis wasn't listed as a property owned by Telenet when they kicked the bucket. So really, I'm not sure who owns Valis but for the time being it seems to be Kill Time.

And what did they do with it? They made a manga series, and a good one! It's drawn by ZOL, and is serialized in their bimonthly publication "Comic Valkyrie" Which is a pseudo-hentai comics magazine. But fortunately, the Valis comic is quite good if you like Valis and don't mind Japanese text; we know the story anyway and the dialog isn't that hard to imagine. And isn't really hentai at all; it's got some panty-shots here and there but nothing bad. And just this month they've compiled the first six volumes into one graphic novel, so you don't have to import all those Comic Valkyrie books to get the Valis installments. (The other comics suck, and volume #1 goes for about $100.00 now.)

Get it here- Valis Comic at Amazon Japan (http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E5%A4%A2%E5%B9%BB%E6%88%A6%E5%A3%AB%E3%83%B4%E3%8 2%A1%E3%83%AA%E3%82%B9-VOLUME1-%E3%83%B4%E3%82%A1%E3%83%AB%E3%82%AD%E3%83%AA%E3%8 3%BC%E3%82%B3%E3%83%9F%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF%E3%82%B9-ZOL/dp/4860324773/ref=sr_1_1/503-2675359-9445504?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1193673388&sr=1-1)

And you can read the entire first issue here-

It's some Java deal where you actually use the mouse to turn pages like a real book.

It's 5"x7.5", 156 pages and costs ¥580 + ¥3,000 shipping to the US. That's a total of about $32.00 as of 10/29/07, now that Amazon Japan's only international shipping option is super-duper fast most expensive service. They removed the cheaper options "in an effort to serve you better".:bullshit: It is fast though, I got mine in 4 days.

With the comic and those cellphone games, it doesn't look like Valis is dead yet.

Is there any penet... sorry, I can't say that with a straight face.

It's nice that the franchise isn't going to completely fade away.

Pennants? Pentagrams? I see a pentagram, yes I do.

After seeing that harpy...thing...I'm suddenly glad this isn't ero. I dunno, that's just creepy.

No, no penet. It's not a hentai comic.

And the Harpy is Gaida, the boss of stage 2 in the PC Engine game. And I think the Megadrive game, too.

That's pretty cool. Not the greatest manga art I've ever seen, but not bad at all. For those that don't want to be raped by Amazon Japan, I'm sure it'll eventually be available all over the place.

I don't know if it's much indication that we'll ever see a new Valis game, though. I know of lots of game-based manga that was created long past the games themselves.

Oh hey, naked Yuko on the first page. Might want to tag that link as NWS.

It seems average as far as game-based manga goes (which isn't very far), but Valis fans can't be picky.

Also, there's no need to buy it off Amazon Japan. Japanese bookstores like Kinokuniya (http://bookweb.kinokuniya.co.jp/guest/cgi-bin/wshoseaohb.cgi?W-NIPS=9982599240&AREA=03) can special-order it for you, and it'll run less than ten bucks.

Thanks, Amazon was the only place that had it when it first came out, and given how the first issue of Comic Valkyrie sold out fast and had it's value skyrocket within a couple weeks, I didn't want to chance it with Valis #1. But now I know where to go when Valis #2 comes out!

And you shouldn't be looking at comics on the internet at work, you should be doing your job! And if you have nothing to do, you should be cleaning. So if you get busted looking at naked Yuko at work you deserve to get reprimanded.:p

And yes, I'm saying this because my boss won't let us goof off on the internet at all. Except HR and management, they can look at naked Yuko all day long... bastards.

Well at least it got reborn as a straight up comic for story.

Still i wish for a new valis action side scroller game for one of these days.

I'd love to see the 4 non-H Valis games make it to the Wii Virtual Console. I wonder if it's even possible now with Telenet gone.

well the subject line led me to believe that this topic was gonna be about how that awful hentai game was just a horrible nightmare that never really happened... SIGH... I should've known the news wouldn't be THAT good...
