A new Wii channel called the Check Mii Out Channel launches Nov. 11, allowing Wii owners a venue to show off their Mii creations and vote on others. Users download the program for free from the Wii Shop. The channel will have a "Posting Plaza" where users can "submit, exchange or just browse." They''ll be able to look at a random selection of 1,000 Miis or see community favorites, there will also be the ability to tag favorites and import them onto their Wii.
There is also a contest section on the Check Mii Out Channel allowing users to submit their own creation based on a theme like a fictional or historical figure. There's no explanation of what these people win ... bragging rights?
As wii owner, this channel is not something that I am interested in. I see wii owners being after the gift channel more.

Yeah, I'd much rather seeing Nintendo putting some effort into making some real online gaming (no damn friend codes) rather than useless stuff like this and the "Everybody Votes" channel.

Is there even any online games available for the Wii yet? I thought there was supposed to be a Pokemon one released a while ago but I haven't heard anything about it in a long time.

The Pokemon title is out already and that is the only online game I can think think of off hand.

Pokemon, Guitar Hero III, Mario Strikers (and I believe a few others) are online right now.

Doesn't Sonic and Mario at the Olympics have some online functionality?

yeah, i'll probably use this channel to showcase some of my freak Mii's, but Nintendo really does need to stop fucking around with kiddie online features and offer something useful like games to play online, or a demo channel, or, and here's a wild idea, downloadable content.

Unfortunately, any sort of real DLC isn't going to be offered with the Wii's tiny hard drive. I wish they'd allow you to use a USB hard drive, or at least directly access stuff saved on a SD card.
The new Medal of Honor game (the one that uses the Zapper) is supposedly going to have 32-person multiplayer. It'll be interesting to see how that goes, since I've expereinced some pretty bad lag just playing FIFA, where there's only 2 people.
FIFA was kind of a hassle to set up to get online, BTW, since you have to register with EA. It does have some decent features, like lobbies and chat, which I didn't see on Mario Strikers.

You're not forgetting WiiWare are you?

Umm.. perhaps the Virtual Console's upcoming gift feature, where you can buy a game for a friend and send it to them?

Yep. That is the gift channel. Some of the videogame news websites like gamespot or joystiq has labeled the feature as a new channel valled gift game channel or being called the gift channel.

This crap makes me cringe..... Why are they doing this instead of something actually desireable?
