Even being the owner of a "fatboy" PS2 and a PS3, I'll probably still pick one up for road trips at this price. Thoughts?

at $99 it might actually be time to replace my artifact model

Road trips?

Yeah something to do when I go places with friends. Hook it up in the hotel and play late at night when nothing else is going on. Nothing like some Hot Shots Golf or Street Fighter Anniversary with some old friends!

Par for the course for Sony.

The PSOne dropped to $100 at around the same time in it's lifespan.

But it never really went lower than that at retail.

The LCD combos were an exception to the rule. If you were lucky, you could find them around the 40 dollar mark.
I have two :D Granted those were clearance prices and not "normal" retail.

At the time it was released, I got the Inter-Act LCD screen which unlike the Sony unit has A/V inputs.

Though, the Sony screens were much thinner and had a better refresh rate.

PSOne's went down to $49.99 MSRP the last couple years of its life. It didn't stay at 100 after May 2002.

I've been looking around for the answer to this, but haven't found it yet: Does anyone know if this even slimmer PS2 will still include the ethernet port? I've been waiting for the $100 price point, but I would still like the ethernet, and if it won't have it, I'll just buy a current slim-but-not-as-slim PS2 now.

Thanks for your help!

Same thing I was going to post. The PSOne was $49.99 for easily 3 solid years.

I recently got my old "fattey" PS2 working great again after extensive cleaning and some repair. also still have my good ol slimline thats still like new.

Now that I have a new HDtv I have no choice but to eventually upgrade to a PS3 or Xbox360 since I had to set up my old SD TV AGAIN just to play about 90% of my favorite PS2 games that LOOK like $hit on the HDtv -specifically many of my favorite classic 2-D fighters and retro collections-.

Other than all that I would have been very interested in picking up one final NEW PS2 for $99.99.

It is kool that the newest slimline PS2 has no " power brick" wich does make it a very portable type system.

I've been waiting for a $99 PS2 for some time now. If it has the normal video out (so I can use my original S-Vid cable) I'll pick one up.

BTW...I picked up a PS One/LCD screen combo for $69 towards the end of its life.

Actually, that's not true.

I bought the last 2 PSOnes that Circuit City had, in 2005, for $49. Mint in box.

And that's where they'll stay until I sell them a few years on down the road.

99 is still too high for a PS2. Sony could clean up if they dropped the price to 79 or lower.

We've long surpassed the point in the PS2's lifespan that the PS1 dropped to $100 in its lifespan. The PS1 dropped to $100 in 1999, and the system came out in America in 1995. The PS2 came out here in 2000, and here it is almost 2008 and still no $100 price tag.

That's one of the main things that irritated me about the PS2 because, in a general sense, I don't like to pay more than $100 for any system. $130 isn't too bad, though, so my boyfriend bought one for me last Spring.
