Along with the 2.0 PS3 update came the Uncharted demo.

Ho-ly shit. Anyone that liked Gears of War will LOVE this game. Very similar duck/cover/roll shoot+hide gameplay, with a fantastic haloish 2 gun system.

Fantastic graphics, tight controls, FUN gameplay.
And best of all.

AUDIO! Booya! I <3 PS3's fantastic audio.

Can't wait until the 20th, this and rock band right after.

The demo is rather short, but I did die a couple of times on normal. What is everyone waiting for? Download it now!

**edit**
I said "fantastic" like 100 times, I'm just happy that the PS3 is getting awesome exclusive stuff. Folklore last month, now this :)

Wicked. That 2.0 update patched fixed some issues with backwards compatiblity on 80GB as well. Which Sony never even discussed.

1 game you could not play until today, was Devil May Cry 3 (or the Special Edition). Now I can finally play it. Which means, the PS3 can play every single game that I loved on PS2 and PS1 offically :)

Sony REALLY needs to figure out a way to increase their download packet speed.

I don't like the fact that even with decently fast Cable Modem speeds not being taxed by a busy home network that I need to wait close to 10 hours to download a relatively small sized demo.

This reminds me to the days of 1400 baud dial up modems.

Seriously.

The PS3 and the PSN are WAY too powerful for this. I figured by this point in the systems life they'd have something figured out.

They can get the damed system to do enough math to figure out complex "Folding at Home" algorithms ... but it takes 10+ hours to download a tiny (in respect to the average size of a PS3 game) demo.

Gah!

Frustration!

I just want to play!

(Bangs head on keyboard)

...ouch.

Yeah ... I know, I know, the demo is over a gig in size. That's got a lot to do with it.

Still. They need to figure something out. Make all live PS3's on the network act like torrents ... or something.

Do you always have slow speed from PSN? If so, the the problem is most likely on your end of the line. I've seen people saying they download over 1MB/s from PSN so it can do good speed. Do you use wireless or ethernet cable on your PS3? When a new demo comes out it might alittle slower to download since so many are doing it at the same time, but it shouldnt be mega slow.

10 hours is too slow that is almost netzero high speed. The psn network is slow uncharted took about 1:15min I would look at yor settings cables etc.

Here is another thing people don't know. Cable companies cap you downloads once you reach a certian amount. If you are constantly downloading it is probably the cable co. You probably will need to upgrade.

10 hours?

Something is definitely wrong on your end. It took me around 5 minutes to download the demo...and I'm using shitty Charter cable (~6.5 Mbps).

When I was DLing it yesterday it went extremely slow if you were doing a background download (I was DLing it while in a video chat) it only got like 28% in 3 hrs, once I exited backgrout DL it took like 5 minutes.

I download most things off the PSN in background mode, because if you have an "install" error upon completion (which I've had a time or two) it doesn't force you to re-download the entire thing like it does in standard mode.

I'm with Comcast, and my d/l speed isn't crippled or capped. Nothing else I download is as slow as my PSN.

Though, I do use a Wi Fi connection... whenever I play an online game like Tekken 5 or Warhawk, it usually rates my connection speed with full bars, so I never assumed it was that.

What is it about a Wi Fi connection that would slow a large sized download?

I have my router set to automatically select the transmission rate - should I lock my Transmission Rate down at the maximum of 54Mbps?

I've heard without auto fallback that if you set a router to a solid high rate and it can't connect it drops out...and since I never had any issues with online gameplay in games as complex as WarHawk ... I never figured it was that.

Not to further derail this topic (or derail it at all) but if you google "PS3 Slow Download Speed"

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=PS3+slow+download+speed

you'll see that multi-hour downloads on popular titles via WiFi and ethernet are in fact the norm for the PSN. (Perhaps my overall time didn't actually total 10 hours...but it felt that way)

I did speed tests on my WiFi signal, and it's coming back at 100% transmission and a fast clip uploading and downloading on my laptop and PSP.

If there weren't so many threads on so many other forums sharing the exact same issue, I'd say that it was my wireless router, or my PS3. But I still chalk it up to how Sony has their download servers set to handle even moderate traffic on the PSN.

Okay, that's enough about my wireless setup and download speeds. Back to sharing impressions of Uncharted.

WTF? 5 minutes are you shitting me?

Took my 5hrs to download mine. All my downloads take a couple hours. I've got Verizon broadband.

BTW, demo is awesome. Have had the game reserved for months now and the demo only enhanced my want for the game.

So is anyone going to share what they thought about the demo? I keep coming back here and expect to see some impressions, not how long it took to download the demo. I don't really care about that, actually.

Great animation, great graphics, great gameplay. Cover system could be a touch better. Still not sure if I will buy it day one though.

Demo impressions...

Very impressed by the demo. The gameplay feels like a cross between Tomb Raider and Gears of War. That really sums it up perfectly. As far as looks go, Uncharted is beautiful. It's obvious that quite a bit of work (and $$$) went into making this game stand out. The production values so far are excellent, remincient of an summer action movie. You can tell Sony wanted this one to turn out perfect. They gave it plenty of time to "cook" and it shows.

My only complaint is the standard suckiness of the PS3 controller and its analog stick locations (not to mention lack of rumble). This isn't the games fault, and I know I'll eventually get used to it, but it still feels awkward in my hands.

I'll be buying this game later this month. SMG is my purchase for next week. Probably any other week, this would've been a day one purchase.

The original poster should change the title of the thread to: "Does it take ridiculously long for you to download stuff from PSN". Then, start a new thread on Uncharted Demo impressions.

Ok, now, regarding the download speeds, the guy that said it took 10 hours, and the guy that said it took 5 hours, something is definitely wrong. No way in hell it should take that long. PSN downloads do seem to be much longer than Xbox Live downloads, but it isn't that bad. And the dudes that said it only took 10 minutes or 5 minutes, you must have some super fast broadband (like fiber optic to the door broadband), cause that is ridiculously fast. For me, it took about 48 minutes or so. I'm guessing it would take the average person at least a half hour, but less than 1 hour.

As for my opinions on the Uncharted Demo, I'll wait for this thread's name to be changed and the other one to be started, lol.

That's the exact mashup I came up with while playing the demo. There really isn't a better way to describe the gameplay.

The controller actually doesnt bother me anymore. After being unable to get use to the controller after playing Xbox 1 and 360 so long, I sat down and finally played the PS3, and its just as natural as the 360s at this point. Its just different. My one complaint is I cant play for as long because the handles arent long enough and my pinky gets twisted.

Uncharted is going to be a great game, but I still dont know if I can pick it up first day, even if I wanted to. Money ><

Every time I play the demo I can't help but think that Uncharted would look play better on 360. The PS3 controller just blows when you are used to using the 360 controller...but what can you do? It's a PS3 exclusive and i'm going to buy it.

Like I said, the easiest thing is just to use it. I havent been a fan of the Playstation controller since the Controller S came out on the Xbox, but with a little time its just as easy.

I just played the demo yesterday. I hadn't anticipated liking it (the trailers did nothing to spark my interest), but I figured I should give it a shot. Man, that was fun. I'll definitely get it, but I think I'm going to get Folklore first.

Even though this probably won't effect many/any who post here, I figured I'd post it anyway.

Much like the full game of Resistance, when played on a Japanese console the Uncharted demo is "censored." All blood is removed, including the red borders seen when you are being shot*. Not sure if the full game will be cut as well, but I'd imagine so.

Buying the Us version of the game doesn't help as it is the *system's* region which determines the editing not where the game was purchased. At least that is the case with Resistance. You could "fix" the editing and restore blood in Resistance by using a Us version save so I'm hoping the same will be true for Uncharted should the full game be cut.

*Also, this is all assuming that there is blood present when the demo is played on Us hardware. I cannot test this as I do not own a Us Ps3 nor know anyone who does. What clued me in to the potential editing was someone talking about how they were surprised it was rated T with all the blood. And yet, when I play the demo on my Japanese Ps3 there is not a single drop of blood. Judging by videos I've seen of the game online not only is there blood, but the screen displays a red border whenever you are hit. This too is absent from the demo when played on Japanese hardware. So, I'd appreciate if anyone who has played the demo could tell me if there is any blood. Thanks.

Sorry guys. In all my chatter over download speeds (Sorry, most people in most regions at most times CAN'T get 10 minute 1 Gig downloads on PSN. I'm not saying that people who claim they did didn't ... but there's simply way too much evidence supporting multi-hour downloads being the rule and not the exception) and I forgot to post my thoughts on the demo!

Gorgeous graphics. From high rez environments, to the character models, to the more subtle things like the blur & soft focus on the camera when panning it quickly around the main character (Nathan Drake).

The controls are somewhere between Tomb Raider (Legend / Anniversary) and Gears of War, with a dash of RE4 to taste.

A fluid, tight, and pretty well-tread control scheme (considering how many games have used similar ones in recent years) yet not completely derivative when you take some of the neat sixaxis control extras into account. Walking across the log was great ... hopefully they get much harder with the required use of the tilt sensors later in the game.

I really love the "throw-away" lines of dialog that Nathan says to himself while under attack. I always wondered why more video game characters don't talk to themselves ... they're all so damned silent during combat. Great voice work in the demo overall, felt and sounded very "natural".

Add another strong exclusive to the PS3's growing library of titles. I wasn't initially planning on picking this one up ... but I might have to add it to my list of holiday gift games.

A great, though sadly short demo. Looking forward to the full experience soon.
