What's with the pic of SMB on the PCE LT?

Emu? Hack? Not that the TG16/PCE was powerful enough to emulate the FC/NES or anything.

I know NES/FC and TG16/PCE used a 6502 processor, but wtf?

I had not seen that product before. Something that I will definitely have to consider ordering at some point in the future. Thanks.

As far as I know, there are a couple of roms available for the PC Engine that are called the 'Mega Collections' and have games such as Mario Bros on them. I do not know if those roms are hacks or actually dumped from real bootleg cartridges...
I assumed they just loaded those roms up for the Neo Flash Card for the demo...

I've played the ROM, the graphics look like the NES game but the sound is all wrong and the game runs too fast.

The PCE and NES are very similar, so NES games can be hacked (with considerable effort) to run on the PCE.

Those NES hacks are from Image, a Finnish cracking group. Since Image were Finnish, they used the PAL ROM of Super Mario Bros. for their PCE conversion, thus the colours are a bit off and the speed is wrong on NTSC systems such as the PCE/Turbo.

They are conversions that really run on the TG16/PCE. They've been floating around since the Multi-Game Doctor in the early 90's.

There's another one that plays several Commodore VIC-20 games, although that *might* have been for the SNES.

Has anyone tried that flash card? I'd love to get something like that, but $110 is a little pricey... It says it'll work on a TG16, but how is this possible since the card slot pins are different on North American units?

I've also played one with Ice Climber on it. Looks okay but runs weird and the sound is screwy, just like the aforementioned SMB experience.

I have the tototek card. The neo flash one is probably a better deal since it only requires a USB connection, unlike the tototek.

As for playing JP games on a US system, you just bit reorder the bytes of the rom - this corrects the reversed order data bus pins. The software should do this for you (it does on the tototek card, but you have to select which game is US or JP). For playing US roms on a JP system, you have to patch the rom since there's a bit of security code at the beginning.

And for other NES games on PCE... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HG934h4rlF0)(a shameless plug, I know)

So if the rom was done on a PAL version, would it sound right and run at the right speed if they had used an NTSC ROM. Is there a simple hack for the rom that would convert it to NTSC?

I suppose a hack would be possible. Compare the PAL and NTSC SMB's and make the same changes in the Image ROM. And improve the palette at the same time...

Chris, was it only SMB or are the other roms PAL versions as well?

I have no idea. Only SMB seems to run too fast in that collection, but someone so inclined could compare each ROM with its PAL and NTSC NES counterparts.

I have, its an absolutely fantastic flash card! I highly recommend it.
It will work on both TG16 and PCE, as the software for putting the ROMs on allows you chose which regionyoure installing them for.

A new 128M version has now been released!

(However, the biggest ROM there is is Street Fighter (20M), and most Roms are no more than 8M so i doubt anyone will need that much space...

As for more info on the SMB ROM... Its called "5 in 1 Fami Collection"

It features Ice Climber, Donkey Kong 3, Super Mario Bros, Pro Wrestling and Kung Fu

Here is a link to the ROM

The same people also did a 15 in 1 Mega Collection, what games/system theyre from or if they are originals, im not too sure.

It's funny, I was just wondering about this ROM a couple weeks ago and asked a friend of mine who knows all about ther PC Engine about it, but he didn't know any real details. He posted a topic about it at the pcenginefx forums. It's pretty cool stuff. I wonder how hard it would be to hack up some NES games to run on the PC Engine ourselves. I assume that any mapper 0 game would be possible.

I find that the Super Mario Bros.pce ROM I have runs at the correct speed in Magic Engine. Maybe a tiny bit fast, but certainly not 20% too fast. I actually play the PAL SMB NES ROM sometimes as a challenge, so I know how fast the PAL one should run and the PCE version isn't nearly that fast in Magic Engine. It may be a PAL-fix hack of some sort, though, I don't know. I think I tried it in Hu-GO! once and it was too fast, though, so maybe Magic Engine has some sort of PAL fix built in.

Nah, only two regions - US and JP. The only consoles for EU with PAL output, were the JP or US ones that were modified by third party companies and such. (Excluding the weird and extremely limited Spain release - still not PAL native software written for it)
