Ace Combat 6 helps the 360 outsell the PS3 in Japan! (joystiq)

Out of all the games that were expected to sell 360's in Japan, none of them really helped the 360 really at all. Then Ace Combat 6 comes out, and helps the 360 sell almost 18,000 consoles in one week, when they've usually been selling between 2-5,000 in a week!

well that surprised the hell out of me. I feel this is only temporary though. The 360 is not marketed very well in Japan and the heavy FPS library is not suited well for the Japanese market. I may change my tune if MS can keep these numbers up, but for now I see it as a small victory for MS.

I've been playing AC6 online for a couple weeks now and it seems like half the people I play against are from Japan. Figured it'd help 360 sales there but not by this much.

This is nice. The Ace Combat game looks like a winner, and I'm glad the XBox is getting a boost in Japan, however temporary. Competition. It's a wonderful thing.

Its not just because of Ace Combat 6 that the 360 sales boosted this week. There was also a price drop, several of games got released as platinum (which means cheaper price), the Elite SKU was released 2 weeks ago, but it was supply constrained and i think there the Arcade SKU was also released. Altho i do belive that Ace Combat 6 is the biggest factor to the sale bump for 360 in Japan.

This is also the first time that the streams crosses in Japan when it comes to PS3, Wii and 360. None of them has outsold eachother before, as in going from 3rd to 2nd place or 2nd to 1st place.

The 360 sales wont last tho. Next week it will be down to somewhat 10k, if not less. It was released 10. December 2005 in Japan and has so far sold 447,601 consoles (according to Media Create). Today its actually 100 weeks since it was released, that would be about 4476 consoles sold each week in average.

And yet in Clifton, NJ not one Ace Combat 6 has sold. That has surprised me, really. Timeshift, Jericho and Conan - all released within a week of this game - have sold way more.

Of course, Japan is a slightly larger market.

Do you mean that the japanese people are shifting from PS3 to 360? If so, thats not the case. As Retsudo says, its the game that does it, not the console itself. PS3 has been outselling 360 since launch about a year ago except last week. Yesterday (11th November) Sengoku Masou (Dynasty Warriors) 5 was released in Japan, both for PS3 and 360. This will show which console that sells most copy. I can guarantee you 99.9% that the PS3 version will sell most copies.

It was sorta confirmed a few months ago, but nothing official yet. I also mean that it was listed on Bandai Namco's website as a PS3 game too, but was later on removed. But ye, its most likely comming to PS3 also.

The 360 is definitly not going to take over PS3 in Japan.

No one ever said the 360 would take over Japan. I was just pointing out that out of all the games MS predicted would get them noticed, in Japan (Blue Dragon, N3, Project Sylpheed), no one really considered Ace Combat 6 a system seller.

My comment was directed to this quote. The way i understood this quote was that he thought people were shifting from PS3 to 360 in Japan. But it might be that he ment something else. I was just pointing that out :)
