BioShock gets my nod...
I can't really give Orange Box GotY honors.... It's a game from 3 years ago, with a few new additions (Ep. 2 and Portal). Portal is fun, but definitely not GotY material.
EDIT - But I will sat this - Team Fortress 2 can give Halo 3 a run for it's money in the Multiplayer category. But I think Halo 3 will just barely squeak by, as the winner. I can't judge Call of Duty 4 yet, seeing as how I haven't played it.
And biggest product whore of the decade award goes to Mountain Dew.

I propose a new rule for this thread...
If you haven't played all the games listed in a particular category, STFU.
Best Multiplayer Game
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Halo 3
Rock Band
The Orange Box
Orange Box? Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Wait, I haven't played Rock Band. I just broke my own stupid rule. Oh well, carry on.

I love the GOTY nominations when they nominate games that aren't even available to the public.

I think if they're putting Orange Box, they should just put TF 2, they put it elsewhere. With that said, if your laugh is directed at the 360 version I can't really speak, but if it's directed at the PC game, it's a very, very solid multiplayer game. I like it more than Halo 3, and while Rock Band is pretty fun (I played the demo at Best Buy with 2 other people, so I guess it kind of counts) I still like a shooter multiplayer game over that, just because the amount of people that can participate. I have not played CoD4 yet, but I hear it's got very good multiplayer. But, I can't really speak for it at this point.

You hear COD 4 doesn't have good multiplayer?!?
I wonder from whom because that game has amazing multiplayer and I'm sure a ton of people will agree with me.

The 360 version of Team Fortress 2 is broken. If they could fix the lag and frequent drops, it might be able to be mentioned in the same breath as CoD4 and Halo 3 multiplayer. Right now...no fricken way.
The rest of Orange Box is excellent. The Half-Life campaigns are better than Halo 3, IMO hands down. TF2 has so much potential, but in its current state is more frustrating than fun. It certainly doesn't belong on a "top 4" list. Ridiculous.

This is very predictable....Halo 3 is going to win any and all awards that it has been nominated for. It's a forgone conclusion. You might as well call this "video game awards" a "Halo awards", because of how the media loves Halo 3 so much. For the other awards, I don't know who is going to win. But I never listen to these awards anyways, all they are is a popularity contest, since the "popular" games always win, like Halo 3.

It is amazing how little I care what that absurd, pile of shit television station and their crew of idiotic staff think about video games…
They should dump what the award program currently goes by and call it the much more truthful and accurate "What is currently the flash in the pan title/system and who gives us the most advertising cash awards…..2007"

I don't see what the point is of getting so upset about it. Yeah, it's pretty much just one long advertising prop. Should there be something "better", an awards show free of corporate interference and demanding of the utmost level of respectability?
Personally I hope video games never come to take themselves that seriously.

Believe you me, I’m not that bent out of shape about it. Anymore, I look at the video game industry as having two sides…
-The side devoted to solid games and “old school” gamers. The side that brings us the truly good titles that will go on as “classics” and games that continue older great titles like Contra 4.
-The side that appeals to the masses. The side that advertises in magazines like Maxim or TV stations like Spike. They flood the market flash in the pan and cookie cutter titles.
It seemed like the mass appeal side was getting a stronghold ion the industry but a few years back (I personally feel it was because of the massive popularity of “old school” Game Boy Advance titles), the industry seemed to start to pay more attention to the old school crowd more and more. Now it seem the industry is almost split in two with on side devoted to the Halo crowd, the other to guy who want something more than constant repeats and remakes.
The Spike awards garbage is what I consider to be the superficial side of the industry, the side devoted to commercial success only and the “what’s popular right now” crowd.
In other words...I just turn the channel.

SpikeTV is (was, as I don't have it anymore) Three Stooges and MXC.
The awards show is something I can easily ignore....but I am shocked that Madden only got one nomination.

AGREED
The only thing that I just simply DO NOT GET in the current state of the video game industry and its "gamers" is the over saturation and over hyping of all these First Person Shooters and all theses ADD kids that play NOTHING BUT FPS games claiming to be "HARDCORE" gamers or gamers at ALL when they wont even take a second glance at something like Mario Galaxy or Shadow of the Colossus OR ANYTHING BESIDES FPS GAMES.:rockets:
OK ok rant over now Ill just go back to playing the Sega Genesis Collection on PS2 and SOON Mario Galaxy on the Wii that I borrowed and all that will be forgotten.

Hey, wow, looks like they finally got the hint that everyone thinks they are retarded for nominating Madden for every category.
Still don't give a shit.

The nominations this year are basicaly correct, however there are some personal picks I would replace in some spots. I swear that halo3 does NOT deserve game of the year, I'm still mad at myself for buying into the hype and buying it so quick. Im kinda suprised to see mass effect on GOTY nomination, considering its not even out yet for christ sakes. Bases on what I have heard though it deserves all of this attention though

Like stated before, this is not a award for what game is really the best, it's a award for what's the hottest game of 2007 and has the most sales. Rarely does this type of "what's hot now" award translate to anything in the future. Look at flash in the pan games of the past...some of the best titles ever made received little/no awards.
Halo 3 is right now...in two years is will be tossed aside just like 2 and 1 have been....meanwhile the truly good games that are overlooked right now will more than likely become tomorrow's classics.

Wow. Mario Galaxy wasn't even nominated for GOTY? That's pretty bad, especially considering it's averaging 97.1% on gamerankings. Oh well, this IS Spike we're talking about.
