I got a guy who is dying to get his hands on a PS3. There's no shaking his resolve, he's dead-set on a PS3 no matter what I tell him. However, he only has a 24" SDTV and I'm just afraid that it won't live up to what he expects. Anyone around here have first hand experience with the PS3 on an SDTV they can share?

The games still look pretty nice (vastly improved model complexity and a larger number of rendering effects will do that) and the smoothing option for PS2 games still yields some decent results.
Does he just really love Gran Turismo/Ratchet & Clank/Heavenly Sword/etc or something? Is he really that into the current/upcoming PS3 library? It's not like he's going to be getting any benefit out of the BD playback capabilities and if he goes for one of those newfangled 40GBs then he won't even be able to enjoy his PS2 games on it.
I haven't had any problems with text being unreadable or anything (unlike Dead Rising on 360), but I also haven't bought any PS3 games outside of a few downloadables (Calling All Cars and Super Stardust HD)...I've been sticking to just the demos while I wait for the new/used games to fall into the $20 and under bin that I love to pick from so much.

I use my PS3 on an SDTV. It's still good. The Ratchet and Clank demo still looks like a Pixar movie. It probably looks more like a Pixar movie in SD because you can't see the little nuances that detract from the experience that only HD shows. My TV also has a widescreen enhanced mode. The TV actually letterboxes itself to provide more vertical resolution for anamorphic video rather than slicing the resolution in half when the source letterboxes it. I've been impressed with it since the XBOX 1, and it's still impressive on the current gen.

I had it hooked up to a SDTV for awhile, and it looked just fine. Not as great as my brothers 46" HDTV (not by a LONG shot), but I was not disgusted with it or anything. The games still looked amazing, and once you got into them it really didn't matter honestly.
