Cod4 does have great unlockables, but here is all you have to do too be successful. Go to a balcony or second/third floor.....camp out and shoot all that pass by underneath....I did this over and over and finished in the top 3 everytime....when they stop running the streets, grab a sniper and pick them off before they see you......the game is just another socom ghost recon....it encourages you to camp...

Top 3 doesnt equal a win :P Granted, I have quite a bit more wins then otherwise, but if youre playing to win, the game is totally different.

I'm normally top 2 on my team, and within top 3 overall almost every game and I don't snipe/camp. Most maps arn't condusive to camping all that much, but there are a few that can benefit from a good sniper.

I've had a few games with some massive sniping, but they've had success against the team when theres no communication on our side and no one is moving to take out the sniper.

I haven't had any problems with players camping, it has happened a few times but nothing intolerable.

Ok, but is it fun to do? Personally i don't give a shit about rankings and i really don't care if i'm in the top 3, top 5 or top whatever as long as i have fun playing. If that means i end up on the bottom of the list, so what?

(but i guess it's an American thing. I'm sure i'm not the first to note that the american society is a competative one, and being the best in something seems to be more important than other aspects)

Troll attempt = FAIL.

"American thing"...lol. Try, human nature. There's competition in all cultures.

Have you tried some other game modes besides FFA and Team Deathmatch? Headquarters, Sabotage, and Search and Destroy tend to discourage camping because they either require high mobility or are time-based. There's also Old School, if you prefer more of a traditional style shooter.

Well actually i wasn't trolling. Ofcourse there is competition in most cultures, but in my personal opinion Americans seem to think this is more important than other cultures. If you, for example, compare US games vs. JP games you'll see that americans seem to like FPSs and sport games (which all have an important competative ingredient) while for JP games are more like RPGs or simulations (where co-operation seems to be more important than competition).

Well I don't know what game you are playing but the only game type that would have camping is team deathmatch. If I paid 60 bucks for a game I wouldn't just be playing TD. You should get out there and play the other 19 game types (19 is a guess but its allot.)

Fair enough. However, I think your example (US games vs. JP games)points out something else IMO. Japan is the anomaly here, not the US. Sports/FPS games are the top selling genres worldwide except Japan.

Try comparing the USA to S.Korea where they have the 2nd highest broad band connection per 100 residents in the world. Go do some research on the online gaming community in S.Korea and tell me they are not as serious as the USA, probably even more so. Around 30% of the entire population is registered for online gaming.

Spoken like someone who has no idea what they're talking about. Competition is everywhere in Confucian society. You think all the rhythm games in Japan aren't driven from people wanting to be the best? You think Starcraft isn't competitive in Korea? Just because you're not knocking off head shots in video games doesn't mean they aren't competitive.

Look at Japan's school. It's highly competitive.
They're competitive in different areas.
