Why in the world would Sony ever want to release a PS2 with a build in DVD recorder in it when their games are printed on DVD?

Am I missing something here?

I believe it's not a dvd recorder. It's only able to read recorded dvd's. They probably want to boast their dvd-recorder sales.

It does not record....it PLAYS movies (only) in DVD-R format.

Also has a built in IR so with the new remote you can power the console on, eject....etc.

Progressive scan DVD playback is supported!

A few more minor changes...yada....yada....yada......no more iLink :)

Is anyone else pissed off at the fact that they can't afford to go BUY A NEW PS2?!

I'm not pissed off, sorry.

I can't afford to buy a new PS2, nor would I since all of the games I own for it now have been playing fine and will continue to do so. Paying anything for a PS2 that will play DVD-R and support progressive scan (two features that don't mean very much to me personally) isn't part of my budget.

Same reason why I haven't bought a GBA SP to replace my GBA. My GBA plays my games just fine, and I don't play in dark areas enough to warrant buying a whole new one just for the backlight.

But then again, that's just me.

all Version 5-7 PS2's can play DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW.. There is nothing new here except marketing and "progressive scan" which won't help the look from a system with no anti-aliasing; furthermore, I've never used it as a DVD player as it could NEVER stand up to my set top DVD player.

Now if you have an original release v1-v2 then this is news as those barely play anything at all :P Think most of them have failed by now.
