I was wondering what you do with video games, systems and accessories that don't work.

I usually try to fix things, but if I can't and it isn't worth keeping, I'll throw it away. If I know I can part it out to fix other items I will keep it also. I've got a box full of "parts." When it comes to throwing stuff out, I always feel bad, it's kind of like flushing your dead fish, and then forget about it later.

But now I don' t know what to do! I picked up a NES top loader at the flea market for $10. It's in bad shape outside, with melted plastic spots from what looks like a cigarette. (Who burns their systems anyway? Probably some drunk violent parent.) I bought it anyway and when I hooked it up... Nothing! I opened it up and holy shit, it was rusted!

So now what? Do I chuck a top loader? Outside it looks like crap and inside looks like an abandoned Ford Pinto, but not as nice. Maybe I'll bury it with diginity.

It sounds like a piece of crap to me.

Have you thought about doing a case mod? Sticking the internal guts into something else? Perhaps, like a bowling ball NES. It'll find life after cigarette burns if you're handy with tools. Possibly cleaning would be in order if the rust is in the "right" spots. If not, pass it over my way, I'll be glad to toy with it. :-D

Put it on ebay. I'll bet you get more than what you paid for it. There is always someone who thinks they can fix it and probably will.

YEa, say Broken top loader and you will still get $30+ for it because everyone thinks it's just something like a burned out cap or something.
