Are you using it on a MAME frontend, or on a "regular type" PC game ... or does this happen with eveything you use it on?

I've only really used my X-Arcade (with PS/2 Keyboard input) on MAME 32, Nesticle, Gens and Stella, running Windows XP and I've never had any issue with windows interrupting play for anything.

Here's a question ... do you have a keyboard plugged into the keyboard pass-through port on the X-Arcade?

I noticed that mine (again, it's the early version that only has a PS/2 input, not a usb plug) didn't function properly (stuttery, non-functional direction and button controls) UNTIL I plugged a PS/2 keyboard into it's keyboard pass-through port.

Didn't have ANY problems with it after that. (Though, I've never been able to get the "program buttons" modes to work right ... even with following the instructions to the letter.)

Do the USB versions have a PS/2 keyboard pass-through port? (If you're using one of those) perhaps you could try slipping a USB to PS/2 keyboard adapter on the end, plugging it into your PC's keyboard input, and then plugging your regular keyboard into the X-Arcade, and see if that works.

it sounds like you have one of the buttons configured to a windows hotkey command for the search app. depends on which version of windows your running but i remember it on the older 9x variants being windows key f3 i believe. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q301583 theres a comprehensive list of all the various default shortcuts in xp. and here http://www.softheap.com/how-to/disable_windows_hotkeys.html is a guide on how to disable them with a little registry tweaking hopefully this leads to a workable solution for you.

Right right...

...be sure you turn off all windows hotkey shortcuts (like pressing shift five times = opening an application), as X-Arcade uses the shift keys in it's default mode on the left stick.
