SNES video bobs / jitters thru S-VID but not Composite? -FIXED!!!

Hello all, I'm in the US.

TV: Samsung Slimfit TXT3093WH CRT Tube Widescreen HDTV (outputs in 1080i)

I thought my 'jitter' problem might be a sync/upscale issue because I hear HDTV's sometimes don't play nice w/ 240p input.

Here are my systems I have and the results so far:
NES: No jitters thru composite.
SNES: Jitters thru composite and S-video
N64: No jitters thru either composite or S-Video
3DO: No jitters thru S-video

Well, after my testing, it looks as though my TV can upscale w/o sync issues for most of my systems. So maybe it was just my SNES right? I go and hookup my SNES thru my projector and NO jitters thru either composite OR s-video. ARGH!!!

I cleaned the AV port on the SNES w/ some ISO Alkie. And I kinda pushed around on the back of the TV's ports. Come to find out... I could get the SNES to work w/ the composite now!!! WOOT!

But it STILL jitters via s-video??!?!?!?!

I'm kinda dumbfounded by that, if it was a TV issue, I would have thought the jitter would have been across all systems or all types of video connections. If it was the SNES, I woulda thought the jitter would have been present on the other TV.

So.. I guess I'm left with 3 options:

1) Buy a 'power filter' for the TV, I've read on the AVS forums that the Slimfit's achelies heel is the power supply unit and it dosen't take kind to 'dirty' power
2) Find another SNES to test
3) Exchange the Slimfit with another one (I just got this TV, and Best Buy still has some inventory left, but I believe the TV is on closeout.)

Any pointers or ideas?

I've been having similar weird issues with my SNES and S-Video... the image won't appear, or it will for a split-second and then its gone.

I tried 3 different SNESes on two different TVs and it's doing the same thing.. I'm starting to think something's up with the cable. Pins don't look bent so I'm pretty sure that's not the problem.

I'm not sure if you're using a multi-console cable, but I know my SNES won't display S-Video if the PS2 is hooked up to the same cable and has power. If the power is disconnected from the PS2, the SNES displays fine, though a little wavy.

It's a madcatz mutlicable, but no other consoles are hooked up to it while testing, only 1 at a time.

I thought it might be feedback thru the power/cables of all the other systems I have hooked up, but I unpluged EVERYTHING, except for the SNES video. Oh and I ran the SNES off a different outlet as well.

Define "not work", as in not produce any signal/sound at all?

The SNES works 'okay' thru the TV, audio works, the video is clear, correct colors, everything EXCEPT that it just 'wiggles' every few seconds.

Update -

I got another SNES at the local Vintage Stock... NO JITTERS!!! :o :o :o

So yeah, turns out it was my SNES and not the cables, nor the TV.

Guess my original SNES didn't fare to well with all the hot/cold cycles while in storage in the attic :(

But I'm still curious as to why Composite works, but not S-Vid for that particular TV... guess the innards of the SNES are different depending on what output signal is required?

That's absolutely ridiculous, since there is no technical reason for an SNES to not work on certain TVs.

Well I own two snes one that is will work any tv and one that will not work on certain tv's . I also own a Sf that will not work on certain tv sets.

The SF has a region block on certain tv's. It was a big issue earlier on when the SNES was released.

Different hardware revisions producing different video signals.

Theory: Looks like the comb filter circuitry fixes up the composite signal enough to keep the jitters away, hence s-video bobs whereas composite doesn't.

You might be right about that? I never used the S-video option before.

I was thinking recently on how to build your own video cable. I had the idea after searching for pin outs.

I think usingg clay, alumnium foil and regular wires should do it.

Might be right about the different revisions.

My original SNES that has the jitters, was a first release version that has the yellowing plastic issue.

The new SNES that didn't have the jitters was yellow free.... forgot to get the Serial # / Version of the new one.. oh well.

The SNS-CPU-01 version (the one with a separate APU) is also more tolerant to different power draws.

My main SNES is a SNS-CPU-01 and I use a third party AC adapter with a 17w rating with no problems, while my other two SNES, SNS-CPU-GPM-02 and SNS-CPU-RGB-01 (the cartridge connector in this revision is affixed to the board) exhibit several issues when using the same adapter, like green wavy lines on the video and sound issues as well. Using the oficial AC adapter fixes said issues.

Are you using the official AC adapter?

I just checked and I'm using the correct Adapter, the SNS-002 or whatever that is called for.

Oh well.. I'll just get a non-yellowed SNES one of these days to replace it.
