It's simply a USB connector on the end right? I'd love to back up my saves, but I don't want to use any of those action replays and such.

Good question.

I'm actually surprised nobody came up with a dexdrive-like device for the PS2...

They have made a few, but I don't think any of them work in quite the same way as the dexdrive. Hell, I don't think they work the same way in relation to each other. They certainly convert their saves into their own proprietary format. One of the Action Replay things lets you load saves onto a USB memory thingy and copy saves onto a memory card.

What I want to see is a PS3-PS2/PS1 adapter driver for the PC that'll let you load any of the stupid proprietary PS2 dexdrive clone game save formats. Either that or a good resource for .PSV saves that can be used with the PS3. Copy the saves back onto the PS2 card and experience epic winnage.

You don't really need one. That's what uLaunchELF + a thumbdrive is for :)

Really, one of the biggest advantages to "soft modding" a PS2 is being able to back up all of your saves to a thumb drive / your PC / wherever. Decreasing load times by installing on the hard drive and bypassing region checks are also pretty darn nice advantages. :D

Looks like MagicGate encryption is preventing anyone from writing drivers for it for PC/Mac, but since it looks like it was reverse engineered for the Memor32's exploit, it may only be a short matter of time before someone tosses together some drivers. We'll see!

They'd have to spend an awful lot of time and energy trying to find a way to make the interface for the Action Replay Max slower and more cumbersome. I think they've pretty much made it as much of a pain in the ass to use as anyone possibly could. In absence of anything else, it works...but shit, if you have an Action Replay Max then you can easily setup uLaunchELF and really tear it up.

I'm just wondering if the PSX/PS2 Controller Adapter for the PS3 will work on the PC as a Controller..

Don't see why not; it should just be a standard plug and play USB adapter. Much the same reason the Saitek flight stick on the PS2 is so much more awesome than the PC version (same stick, but fully pnp compliant)...and more expensive :'(

Looks like I'm stuck playing Ace Combat 5 with the gamepad until I can play it emulated on my PC w/ my X52. <3 Saitek <3

(p.s. fuck Mad Katz!)

Plug it in and see. I would think that windows would just read it as a mass storage device, so it should work

Nah, it detects the new hardware but it doesn't know what to do with it. Once someone (hopefully?) eventually hacks together some drivers then we should be in business, though.

I've got old Radio Shack PS2-to-USB adapters from like 5 years ago that work perfectly on the PS3, so I'd imagine something like the reverse would work too.

You can copy any of the game saves from the ps3 to a usb thumb drive or a memory stick and then copy them to your computer, but they can't be used on a ps2 when you do that... They are still backed up though.

Hmm, that may be a temporary solution for me. I'll have to try out my friends PS3. Thanks :)

Well, you can't use the saves on the PS2 when the saves are on your PC. That's a given. But you can take saves downloaded from the internet, put them on your USB stick, copy them from the USB stick to the PS3, and use them normally. I haven't done it, but I don't see why you can't take those saves from your virtual memory card and then copy them to a real card for use on the PS2.

This is the most disappointing thing for me. There isn't really a complete selection of these saves out there on the internet. GameFAQs has a handful, but there aren't enough.

There are lots and lots of saves around. It's just that they're in those half-assed propietary formats for the Action Replay and the Codebreaker and whatnot.

That's my point. We need a resource for .PSV PS3-compatible saves.

Plug your PSP into your PS3, hit "USB MODE" on your PSP if it's not set to auto, select the PS1 game that you've purchased on the PSN store on your XMB game menu, hit the triangle button on your controller and then select COPY from the menu.

Frankie, will tranferring files to a PSP (if it's made for PSP, that is) from a PS3 be the same if the PSP has been...umm...tampered with? Will Sony find out?

Not sure but I doubt it.

I think if they were checking modded firmware on USB transfer we'd have heard about it by now.

Well now that this thread has been revived...

I managed to get FreeMCBoot running on my PS2 so I can run homebrew now. Has anyone come up with a game save converter yet?

there's a save editor floating around that can allow you to open the various save types available(gameshark, Action Replay, etc...). you can extract the contents of the save to a usb drive and use ulaunchelf's filebrowser to put them into your memory card

Does anyone have an idea of whether or not I could use the PS2 card adaptor on my PS3 to install FreeMCBoot?
