I've been working on expanding my TG collection and now I'm wondering about the best way to play them. I have been thinking about getting an Express because I like not having to hook anything up in order to play it, as I have discovered with my nomad. But I have heard that they can be prone to failure and they don't have a save feature, but I didn't even know that some games had this option so I don't know if this is a big deal or not.

So far I've only got a straight up TG16 and I'm not sure what the best option is. I don't plan on getting CD games or imports anytime soon, if ever, so with that in mind which is my best option for gaming TG16 games?
Thanks

Straight up if it's at home a modded,Duo-r or rx wich has a region switch and s-video added.

When it comes down to it d-lite some times has one to sell.

For playing the cd games any ways.

Nuff said.

Btw for a turbo-express..watch out for getting one that has a dead pix in it.

...or a failed speaker capacitor.

The TurboExpress is nice. A TG16 with a TurboBooster Plus (not to be confused with a regular TurboBooster) is a reasonable alternative if you're not looking to get into the CD or import end of things.

TurboBooster+ adds memory.

I agree with Tron 2.0 that a d-lite modded Duo-R or -RX is the best option for playing TurboGrafx games, I have to admit that I use my TurboExpress a lot more than my TurboGrafx-16, and the TG-16 is hooked up and ready to use... there's a lot to be said for the convenience of pick-up'n'play gaming, and I admittedly have a thing for portables. With those provisos, I will say that the TurboExpress is not ideal, because it's resolution is not equal to the games you are playing on it, so it can be quite difficult to read the "crushed" text in some games. This can prove a particular pitb with some passwords, which are required to save games - although there are many games that will not use the Booster+ memory feature for saves, at least you can read the passwords on the television screen; it can be a real trial on the TurboExpress. Other than that, however, it's an awesome bit of technology - the screen may be small but it's impressively clear, even today...

I recommend a DUO. May seem expensive, but just cave in and buy one.

Just remember that the CD based games have no copy protection whatsoever... Just saying...

I'll vote for a region modded Supergrafx + cd drive. You will be the only one around with one.. :)

I use a Duo-R to play all but my american Turbo cards. For those I have a bare bones Turbografx-16 to run them on.

Quite simply unless the HuCard games you want to play involve reading, there's not much of an incentive to get US ones over Japanese ones. And a lot of the best games came on CD, which are region free to begin with, so...

Duo-Rs and Duo-RXs tend to be more reliable than a normal Duo, regardless of what region that Duo is. Don't bother with just a turbo system if you want to play CD games-the CD add-on costs about as much as a Duo.

Ok, well I'm still thinking about an Express but now I'll look into a DUO R or RX also.

Whats the difference between an R and RX. Also what kind of price can I expect to pay?

Thanks for all the answer so far.

Only difference is that the R comes with a 2 button controller and the RX with a 6 button. Which is nice and all for fighting games, but honestly all of them have seen better ports in the years since.

I paid about 120 bucks for an R.

Careful about buying a Turbo Express... those things are known to have bad capacitors that eventually die and kill your audio. If you're good with a soldering iron, you can revive them by replacing the capacitors, but otherwise you'd have to send it off to be repaired. Same goes for the Duo by the way.

If you're absolutely sure you won't want to play any of the CD games, then I'd say stick with a regular TurboGrafx-16, as they're relatively cheap and easy to find. If you think you might want to try out some of what the Duo has to offer, then I'd also recommend going to the modded Duo-R/RX route.

Well, if you go that way, you can play the entire turbo library.
