Getting gum off a controller cord?

Hi guys,

Just got a used N64 controller for free today, but there was gum stuck to the cord with a piece of electrical tape wrapped around the spot with the gum on it. Any suggestions on how to clean this puppy?

I'm going to put on my blue dress shirt and khakis and speak loudly while I clean the cord just like the guy on the TV commercial... LOL
